Malty aroma, along with fruity and piney hops. A tad watery on the palate. Flavor of toasted malt, caramel, orange peel , and bitter piney hops. Bitter finish with some toasty and tea like flavors. Nice maltiness to this one. This is the best Magic Hat I have had to date, and a pleasant surprise from a brewery that tends to disappoint. I would buy this as a session if I had access to it. Rather hoppy for an amber, but I don’t mind. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Great fresh citrus hop aroma- grapefruit. Taste is fresh citrus, with a good malt backbone. Bitterness is moderate throughout. The best magic hat session ale I’ve had.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2009 Unexpectedly nice brew. The appearance is a nice red/mohagany color, white head. The aroma is a good balance between floral hops, caramel. The flavor is also quite nice, a mix of floral and citrus hops, caramel, toffee, brown sugar. The finish is an astringent hop bittering, both floral and pine. Medium mouthfeel. They must have pulled a lot of hops off the shelf for this brew. Very good. Naven (883), Poway, California, USA

Pours a dark amber/red color. Aroma is pure hops, with some spice and malt in the background. Taste is a nice hoppy amber flavor that is well balanced and smooth. One of the better amber ales I have had in a while. smashweights (15), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2009 Big head, amber color, starts off with touch of typical marzen maltiness, then immediately follows up with moderately intense hops, with a decently bitter finish, but crisp finish that lingers. A great, hoppy deviation from the smorgasbord of oktoberfest beers. hopslovin (181), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA

Smells great. Bitterness, piney resin on the front, and malt following in in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel. Bitter finish. Very nice. gwpom (253), Akron, New York, USA

My very first RateBeer review, so excuse my newbieness. I’ve had several of the Magic Hat brews, and am always pleasantly surprised by their variety packs. Roxy is woody, hoppy, deep amber color and cloudy when pouring, white deep head that quickly dissipates. I like darker brews myself, but this is a very pleasant hoppy ale. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2008 I enjoyed a couple bottles of this hoppy, winter, seasonal ale. Noticeable citrus hop aroma, malty as well with a hint of coffee. Dark amber appearance with a large tan head and spotty lacing. Fresh and filling on the palate with a crisp hop bite. Great taste with a healthy dose of citrus American hops along with malt flavors of bread and caramel. A faint hint of coffee and smoke, very faint but it’s in there. Overall this beer resembles a standard American Pale Ale that contains a heartier/deeper malt profile. Drinkable and very fresh, I am impressed by Magic Hat with this one.
