Deep, slightly hazy amber body with a soapy, clinging cream-colored head. Light aroma, which is basicaly sweet malts with just a touch of citrus hops. Long, chewy mouthfeel that ends on a punch of carbonation. The aroma is a bold-faced lie in relation to the flavor. There is a quick introduction of caramel sweetness, but that is quickly slapped aside by citrus and floral hops. Long, bitter fade of grapefruit. I like this beer...but tastes more like an APA or IPA.

It has a deep amber colored body with some visible carbonation and very good clarity. On top sits a modest light tan head that hangs on well and makes some nice spotty lace on the glass. The aroma has good strong pine and citrus hops with notes of grapefruit and lemon. It has a solid, rich malty base with very solid and pleasant citrus hop notes throughout. The hop bitterness builds towards the finish and lingers a bit before it slowly fades off the tongue. It has a solid medium to full body with a smooth yet lively texture and nice carbonation.

November 2009 from bottle. Mixed sampler case of Magic Hat beers. Caramel, malt, spice and fruit aromas. Good balance and flavors.

Backlog rating 12-16-2008 (Bottle) This beer pours a medium sized ivory fizzy head that mostly diminished, fast rising carbonation, fair amount of lacing, hazy body, and a deep orange hue with a golden tint. The Aroma is earthy, malty, some caramel, citrus, grapefruit, and pine hops. The Taste is mildly bitter, fruity and acidic. The Palate is tingly and this is a medium bodied beer. All-in-all, not a lot going on with the taste of this beer and became rather boring to drink after a short time.

Its been quite awhile since Ive had this brew. It was very tasty with a great malt character. One of those beers you wish they wouldnt have retired. Copper pour into the glass with a nice white head. Big malt character on the nose. Very well balanced with caramel malts really shining through on the palate. A great autumn beer.

Bottle shared from a friends cellar. Great looking ale with a huge rocky head, nice lacing, citrusy hop aroma. Flavor notes are plenty of hops, subtle malty sweetness in the finish.

Originally reviewed: 2/13/09. Pours a deep ruby color with a massive off-white head. Excellent retention and great webbing along glass edge. Smells very appealing. Great hop scent, with some grapefruit, and grassy notes as well. Every sip I take, I get a great whiff of this. Spot on. Im really surprised at the hop bitterness this one holds. This really reminds me of Big Hoppy Monster. Some prominent bready taste in there as well. Not the most balanced as the bitterness could be a bit harsh for some. Crisp mouthfeel that aids drinkability well. Slight dry finish.

Good flavor with that omnipresent magic hat hops blend. Too bad its only limited edition. I hope it comes back again for more to enjoy it.

Deep amber with a light tan head that was gone in 60 seconds. Nose of raw green hops gives way to caramel, then diacetyl. Flavor was initially the same, but with the hop profile increasingly giving way to the caramel maltiness and diacetyl.

From notes. Originally reviewed 12/16/2008. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Pours a caramel / amber / cherry color, with a 4 cm white head, half of which remains and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Apricot is the strongest fruit smell in Roxy Rolles, but there are quite a few citrus odors in the mix. Definitely some caramel bread notes as well. A little bit of caramel malt up front, it is quickly followed by some nice tart, citrus flavors, with the apricot I noticed in the smell, as well as a little orange and grapefruit. Some bready flavor sneaks in, but the citrus flavors really lead into the hops nicely. The citrus slowly fades but still remains about half strength all the way until the end. The hops stay strong through the rest of the sip and I am left with a tart, bitter taste at the end. Quite enjoyable. Roxy Rolles has a medium body with a little less than medium carbonation. Although I like the citrusy and hoppy taste, I am left with somewhat of a tart aftertaste in my mouth, which is less than desirable. This is an easy-drinking amber ale. The nice caramel malt adds a smoothness throughout each sip that pulls together the citrus flavors and hops.
