2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
(bottle - 12 oz) Orange pour with a white head. Slightly sour grain and dry grass aroma with maybe a hint of wheat. Flavor is bitter and sour. Very cloyingly so. A bit of sweetness but the dry sour and bitter notes kind of ruin it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very interesting. Piney astringent typical of ipa but more bitter nut base from the rye. Well matched to quiet spicy hops

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Specialty Grain? IPA? I’ll see when I enter this rating.
Ah - Specialty Grain. Funny how many wheat ales are getting into the IPA category now while the ryes are getting the boot.
This has an amber body, lots of bubbling, and a slender, creamy ecru head. It has an aroma of caramel and citrus fruit with quiet floral scents. The flavor is mainly about the caramelly malt. There’s also a light peppery sensation that lingers on the tongue. Midway through some citrus and zest flavors kick in along with a moderate bitterness. It finishes on a dry, softly bitter note. Not bad, but when I see "IPA" on a bottle, I’m always expecting more.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
this was a pleasant surprise, hoppy and rye spicey body, bitter finish. Nicely done, had no idea this was going to be good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The appearance has a cloudy copper color with a large light tan head, and the aroma blends rye, diacetyl, caramel malts and resin, pine and floral hops. The taste is mildly bitter, slightly sour, and a touch sweet; the palate fuses a medium-full body, slick texture, average carbonation, and a long bitter finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle to shaker glass. Pours deep hazy amber/red, two finger off white head, moderate lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, pepper and caramel. Taste is snappy from the rye, nice resin bitterness, balanced sweetness from the grain bill. Medium body, slightly creamy, lightly carbonated. Finishes sweet up front then a long chewy bitterness. I like this one!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from 12oz bottle. Opening was tasty with a kick from the rye malts. Led to a beautiful marriage of hop bite. Ver nice take on the style.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Fresh and Easy: Poured a medium tea colored brown with tons of sediment floating as a thin layer of foam develops on top and will break down rather quickly. Aroma is subtle with minor scents of caramelized malts as well as bready rye malt with minimal hops detected under an IPA type of night. The taste is identical to the same type of characteristics that my nose detected but becomes more vibrant with the my tongue finding the very same flavors. This is quite possible the best Magic Hat beer I have tasted in the past 10 years and that is rather sad when considering the decisions they have made available in California. =/
