Appearance: hazy dark amber color, pours with a small beige head that fades quickly Aroma: malty sweetness, caramel, sweet, kind of faint Taste: slight bitterness up front, rye spice and froth, more bitterness on the finish, Palate: lively carbonation, moderate to heavy mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste Overall: kind of a simple beer, rye spice and froth with a bitterness from the hops, good just doesn’t stand out ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I normally avoid Magic Hat like politicians avoid integrity, but it was time for something new. Ticket to Rye is not bad; it has a nice spicy element, yet the additional hops compliment quite well. Good job Magic Hat. serving size: 12oz bottle into conical shaped vessel.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle. Pours a hazy light brown color, with a one inch off white head. Heavy rye grain and earthy aroma with just a bit of citrus hops. Taste is earthy, heavy on the mashed grain, caramel, spicy rye, but not much bitterness. Fuller body, smooth, extra creamy.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Really good looking pour - slightly cloudy, reddish-walnut in color. Rapidly dissipating creamy head, with very faint lacing. Crisp boozy texture, slight fruit flavors and and intricate hoppiness. Residual alcohol burn. Challenging, but very enjoyable.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
Hazy amber coloured body with a brown glow and a thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rye, light hops, alcohol, a touch of figs and pit fruits and bunches of earth. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rye flavour with a lot of grain flavour, some light hops and a very watery flavour right afterwards - no depth at all on the flavour. Aftertaste has a hint of pit fruits, but not much at all noticeable aside from the earthy malty rye. Overall, a pretty poor offering, but that was expected from the brewery - however, this is slightly surprising that such a potent grain could make such a bland beer - there is simply no complexity at all here. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 13-July-2013 for US$2.00 sampled at home in Washington on 26-August-2013.

3.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is outstanding -- like beer potpourri, with spice, hops, and malt. It is a good looking beer, nothing remarkable... muddy brown amber. Mouthfeel is somewhat bitter... rye is fairly strong on the taste, aftertaste is sweet -- all combined, kind of odd but reasonable. It’s not bad.
