Tap at the wet whistle in abington. Straight caramel, sweet malt. Mildly watery. Boring, pointless. Another disappointment from magic hat.

Lightly hazed dark copper colored liquid. Modest aged paper colored head. Fairly light aromas, only a hint of toasted malt and a touch of herbal hops. Toasted malt dominated the flavors. A touch nutty and earthy. More a brown brew than a refined Vienna. 3/10

12 oz bottle pour into pint glass: clear copper color with about an inch of light beige foam that subsides after about a minute. Aromas of honey/caramel with piny notes. The flavor is nice and biscuity, gentle toastiness with solid caramel sweetness down the middle and some hoppy brightness to help finish. The medium body and good carbonation hold up pretty well. I like it. It’s not real complex but it’s very drinkable.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 10/29/2015. Pours crystal clear deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Great appearance. Aromas of brown sugar, cracker, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of brown sugar, cracker, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, light pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is a very nice Vienna lager style. All around good robustness and balance of bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

I am a fan of this, tons of malt character w/o being sweet or overbearing. I guess most people don’t like such things as much as I do. This is a slightly cloudy beer w/ a thin white head. Lots toasty malt note and even a hint of roast, which is surprising given this is not particularly dark for an amber. This is medium bodied w/ crisp carbonation and just a hint of sweetness to highlight the malt. Definitely give this one a try if you are a fan of the style.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joe’s in Short Pump, VA Nice head formation with lacing down the glass of the clear amber lager. The off white head stays with the lager. The aroma of toasted bread greets you with caramel malts. No hop aromas were evident. Nice tasting larger. The vienna style is one of my favorites. The larger has a medium body with average carbonation. The finish has more of the bready flavors with toffee as a kicker.

Bottle from magic hat. Pours a deep Amber with an off-white head. Nose is some toasted malts, some sugar, and some almost French toast. Flavor is similar- toasted malt, some bread, light brown sugar/ French toast, and lager yeast on the back end. Light to medium in body with lingering toast and lager on the finish.

Pours an amber from a bottle. All of the bottles of this type in the mix 12 pack exploded upon opening for some reason. Aroma of soapy citrus, flavor similar with some light carameliness. Okay beer.

Aroma of what I’d imagine freshly chopped wood in a dense forest after a summer rain smells like (Which isn’t bad- I gave it a 7 for aroma). Taste is malt-centered with some swampy and and dry malt elements with a traditional American malt taste and some light but flavorful hops mixed in (Closer to noble than something like cascade, though what these are percisely, I couldn’t tell you- I’m not *that* good. If I had to guess, it’s an American hop bred to be somewhat similar to a noble hop but with it’s own notes- a little more tangy than noble hops- and there’s an obvious mix here going. Odd beyond belief that this was added as a "new" beer (says so right on the box) in the 2015 winter mix pack when I clearly remember drinking this when my 5 1/2 year old dog was a little puppy of perhaps 3 months- and I can see the same label staring back at me from the page with reviews from 2010 and earlier as is on the bottle. But false or confusing advertising aside- solid beer. Not spectacular, but I like it.
