A collaboration with the Fabulous Brodies Beers of London, in true Brodies style we brewed a fruity twist on a modern classic . An all pale malt body and balanced bitterness creates the background to let the fruit shine. We added loads of richly sweet mangos in the boil and again in fermentation to accentuate the tropical fruity character of the Citra hops added in the hop back and in conditioning. Deeply fruity yet deliciously crisp and satisfying, all hail The Great Alphonso!

On tap at Dean Swift near Tower Bridge. Chestnut brown with good lacing; strong, distinctive and slightly unpleasant sweaty aroma. Strongly bitter in taste with dark chocolate, malt, huge hops. Yes yes yes, good ale.

Keg at Earl of Essex, London. It pours a clear gold colour with a small white head. Aroma is is hoppy and fruity, with apricot and mango. Taste is quite bitter with some grass and cat piss, but mostly fruity hoppiness. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, very good APA.

[keg at the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh] Very hazy, but brilliantly golden, beer. Large white head. Lots of citrus on the nose – orange, tangerine and lemon mostly, with some of that mango sweetness. I got more of that on the flavour, however, which started off sweet and fruity with that mango, before finishing with some zesty citrus and pine. Only tried the keg version, cask was rumoured to have more mango on the flavour [18122012]

King Willliam IV. Keg. Hazy gold beer, good white head. Palate is a little soft with nice fine carbonation. Kegs working well for me today. Lightly skunky hops with mellow citrus and then pronounced mango. Creamy malt. Nice refreshing fruit beer.

Keg & Cask at King William. It pours clear golden yellow with an orange hue and small white head. The nose is orange, tangerine, passion fruit, mango, straw, hopsack and grass. The taste is hay, straw, mango, apricot, resinous, light metallic, solid bitterness, pithy orange, tangerine, passion fruit and a touch of grass with a long, dry finish. Medium bodied. Cask version is slightly sweeter and stickier, which I think provides more balance overall. The higher carbonation of the keg version is harsher on the palate. A great fruity APA.

Keg at Billy IV, London during the Magic Rock Tap Takeover. Pours clear gold with a fine, white cream head. Juicy orange nose, light straw, passionfruit. Medium sweet flavor with very graceful hops, light pee, straw, pale malts, fresh citrus. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly dryness to finish with biscuity pale malts, juicy orange, mango, papaya. Delicious. Utterly drinkable. As with the High Wire NZ, I would say this is the UK’s answer to the best stuff coming out of the USA. Superb.

I also tried this beer on cask. While the cask version had more robust character, it was a touch stickier and less refreshing than the keg version. As such, I would say prefer the keg version.
