Tap at Mikkeller and friends. Dark brown pour with a very small beige head on top. Nose is quite pepper forward with light vinous notes and a hint of liquorice behind the Belgian farmhouse. Taste is balanced funk and roast, moderate liquorice, quite earthy and pine driven hops. Not too heavy handed with the Belgian yeast. Done very well. Goes down a treat

Pours dark brown with a massive mousse-like head. Nose shows potent saison yeast and Belgian spicy phenols with a soft herbal hit too. Very soft bready and roasted malt notes. Light roasted malt presence as a flavour too, although there’s a fair whack of herbal and spicy hops along with more Belgian yeast notes. Needs a lot more carbonation.

On tap at Mikkeller & Friends, july 16th 2013. Dark brown body, small beige head. Yeast spicy aroma with dark fruit, grass and caramel. Zesty grapefruit taste, funky, pine and some fruit sweetness. Dry wheaty finish with a nice funky yeast aftertaste. Quite good.

Tap (Pudel Baar, Tallinn)
Lets just get this clear - black saisons suck. It’s a stupid idea, and it’s never been done well. So my expectations are incredibly low. Aroma pleasantly sweet, OK level of malty roast, some subtle belgian yeast influence, some spicy herbal nettly aspects too. Very dark, large tight keggy head - hard to pour. Watery palate, fizzy carbonation. Black treacle taste, belgian yeast, carbonic acid, that’s the taste in a nutshell. No depth, no complexity, nothing of interest to be honest. Fizz turns into tingle from hops later, fortunately. Covers 7% very well, but it’s probably hidden behind the fizz. Even 2 great brewers can’t create a good black saison - this is a lesson: nobody should even attempt to make one from now on. Please.

Draught @ Mikkeller & Friends. Pours dark brown with a fully lasting creamy medium head. Aroma is quite estery with pear, dark fruit, cola, pine, brett and light citrus. Taste is light+ sweet and bitter. Body is medium, texture is smooth, carbonation is soft+. Finishes fruity. A little edge might have been nice.

@ Mikkeller and Friends. Artificiella toner av fruktighet. Väldigt bra balans. Rund fin kropp.
