Tap. Lovely deep brown almost black color. Huge size, thick brown head, stays. Sweet, chocolate, woody, alcohol, toffee in aroma. Nice deep roast, chocolate, vanilla, woody, t. Packed with complex flav. Long lasting sweet chocolate aftertaste. Soft carbonation. It made me go wow at first, but end is too sweet and sticky.

Had it on tap at the Speakeasy by Pőhjala (€ 7 per 33 cl). Black colour, thick beige head with good retention and thin but thick lacing. Vinous notes and marmalade on the nose, also black plums with a bit of alcohol (especially as it’s warmed). Sweet rum cake taste with roasted malts and dark fruits, chocolaty, some bitterness in the finish. Dryish on the palate. Sherry notes perhaps yes. Overall the alcohol is quite well covered by the sweetness. Not bad but not impressed.

Keg (Speakeasy, Tallinn)
Smells of chocolate cake and sherry trifle. By Knuth, that’s sweet. Given that the alc% is higher, they may as well have just thrown in a couple of bottles of sherry for all we know. Wet barrels are fake and gay. Bizarrely liquoricey and sweet taste, a curious combination. Reminds me of the liquoricey deserts I had in one of the wanky restaurants I went to last year. What are the symptoms of diabetes? I think I can feel it kicking in. The ordinary Bearded Lady was oppressively sticky, this takes that to a whole new level. Sweet, sticky, slick, and even slimey palate. Designed for thimble tickers, that’s for sure. Sweet sugary liquorice in the finish too. Very simple beer, and a metric fucktonne too sweet for people who like their beers to actually attenuate. The FG of this is higher then the OG of many kinds of beers that I like drinking. That said, it’s not actually unpleasant. Ticked, but I still have 80% of the glass left :-(, better book myself a bed in the diabetes ward...

Keg at The Westow House, Crystal Palace, London. Very dark chestnut with tan head. There is a deep chocolate maltiness alongside a wine like port flavour. Sweet fruitiness with a liquorice, tarry aside. Good, deep palate. Really very decent.

Keg at the Westow House, Crystal Palace. Dark brown pour with a reddish tint. Rich nose of licorice, Christmas cake, raisin, dates, treacle, caramel cake. Taste of caramel, toffee, burnt sugar, licorice, coffee. Exceedingly smooth. Sweet, warm booze laden mouthfeel. Archetypal throat warmer. Delicious!

Black beer, medium tan head. Nose is chocolate, roast, sherry, mild maltiness. Flavor is medium dry with sherry, roasty hints, milk chocolate. Finishes somewhat acidic, sherry, wood notes. Lingering sherry. Pretty nice and smooth, although the acidity tends to build up with sips taken.

Keg, Westow House, Crystal Palace. Black with virtually no head. Oily, dark chocolate, raisins. Wood and sherry come in at the end. You can feel the alcohol but in a good way. Really decent beer though the bourbon barrel aged is even better
