Cannonball is an India Pale Ale in the true tradition, high in alcohol and massively hopped to survive a long sea voyage. We don’ t want you to wait though, crack the cap and let the flavour explode on your palate. Tropically fruity, resinous hops compete against a sweet malty backbone, while a rasping bitterness builds to a mouth puckering crescendo. Our hop bomb might just blow you away…

Aroma dominated by pine, also juicy tropical fruits, grapefruit, caramel and faint spearmint. Taste is pine, grapefruit, pineapple. Soft and wet and juice-like up the middle, it drys and firms at the back with mild warm alcohol twang and finishes with a pleasant lingering light spiciness.

Can. Light golden, cloudy, average to large and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty and dryish - lightly sweetish aroma, faint caramel and light - some tropical fruitiness, piney - some citrus hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and dryish - lightly sweetish flavor, faint caramel and light tropical fruitiness, some citrus - piney hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and dryish, faint tropical fruitiness, some piney - citrus hoppyness. Really nice hoppy and fruity aroma. Finish is bit timid - could use more fruitiness and bitterness. Nice head.

Can. Nose is tropical hops, lime, pineapple, mango. Taste is tropical fruit juice, mango, sharp pine and a rich pineapple flavour, stone, a little peppery and spicey in the finish. Very cloudy. An excellent example of a modern IPA.

Can. Hazy golden-orange pour with a thick, foamy, lasting head. Heavy lace on the glass. Resiny hops, grapefruit, some malty sweetness. Balanced. Mid-dry. Soft to average carbonation. Pretty darn good stuff.

Can from Hippo Glasgow (£3+). I quite like this one. Fruity and sweet with faint bitterness at the end. Quite long. Very little alcohol for 7.4% and probably a wee bit too sweet for my palate, but decent stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank w Matt after my cousin Jonathan's wedding banquet. Cloudy beige-tangerine, fizzy watery white head and legs. Smell is very nice - heavy resinous hop, moderate to heavy sweet floral honey cereal malt, corn flakes, stone fruit. Taste is huge wet resin bitterness, long lasting, big stony finish. Body is very bitter, stony, ends on lightly spicy frothier lemon finish. Great great beer. Massively resinous hoppy crisp beer. Nose is wonderful, with plenty of interesting and complex malt flavours to complement. A steal for HKD $32.
