Keg at North Bar (Magic Rock Halloween takeover). Aroma is brilliant - roasted coffee, chocolate, red wine, a bit of digestive biscuit. Taste is wonderful - the dark chocolate, coffee and raisinish flavours your expect from Dark Arts, but a beautifully mingling plummy character from the red wine, and a vanilla from the barrel. You could easily mistake this for an imperial stout, its got that character. Long, flavourful finish. Utterly beautiful.

Keg at BD Shepherds Bush. Pours black with thin brown bubbles on top. Touch of lacing left about. Very vinous and sweet nose. Vibrant raspberries and citric juice combine with light aniseed and roast. Taste is liquorice forward with vinous red grapes, raspberries and blueberries, savoury olives and and dark fruit with thin milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Solid but nothing spectacular

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
[keg at the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh] Black with a beige head, sits very well. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, wood and tannin. The red wine is really evident, both on the nose and the taste. Alongside this, lots of red berry fruit, rich dark chocolate, raspberry and oaky notes. The vinous quality from the wine really lifts it – and comes to be the commanding flavour, I wouldn’t have been surprised had I been told some had actually been poured into my glass. By far my favourite Magic Rock beer of the Hanging Bat takeover, and one of the best barrel-aged beers I’ve had for a long time. Superb

Keg (I think), Euston Tap, Big Smoke, 25/11/12. Wow. Brazen oak, custard, cranberry aroma with intense juicy fruit and dark raisiny chocolate. Slippery, oaken, juicy with cranberry, liquorice, subtle citrus undertones, a long chocolatey and cigar-like linger, bell pepper tang, bonfire, grilled veg. Even better than standard issue Dark Arts and approaching something very special indeed.

Tap @ North Bar, Leeds 011112
Black with ruby edges, gushing from tap, tan head
Aroma - soft roasted malts, some bitterish red fruits, some old wood, the wine aging is noticeable
Taste - mellow roast malts, touch of red fruits, background of bitter hops, getting the red wine, touch of tannins, bit woody, well balanced
Palate - medium carb, medium body. Finish as main flavour with a nice quite complex mellow roasted with a slight tannic bit sour fruit
Overall - This was very good out of the keg as it wasn’t too fizzy, interesting beer

Tap at the Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell - 29/10/12.
Pitch black with a thin tan head that clears to the edge.
Roast malt nose, plastics, almond, dark sugars, window sealant, touch of booze - not convinced!
Tastes of chocolate, roast coffee, touch of vino rouge and fruit, caramel, light sour tones.
Medium heading towards fuller bodied with a bitter sweet aftertaste.
Ok but the balance isn’t quite all there for me!

Tasted on tap @North pub, Leeds, on 02/11/2012.
Pours lovely earthy black with a beige head.
Aroma is elegant, vanilla and roasted notes dominate.
Taste is just incredibly awesome, high carbonation gives a full-bodied mouthfeel, a perfect, surprisingly well suited mix of classic stout notes with acidity and flowery notes of a wine.
Aftertaste is a mix of dark chocolate, vanilla and sour berries.
Lovely, delicious beer!
