COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Arts blends 4 malts and bags of whole hops to deliver a decadently deep and indulgent experience. A luxuriously smooth mouthfeel, is followed by spicy hop notes and full flavours of chocolate, liquorice, blackberries and figs. The finish is rich and satisfying with a lingering roasted bitterness. Our stout will convert you to the dark side.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2012 Bottle from Great Grog. Man am I excited about this beer. Big deep black pour, thick bubbly brownish head. Nose is rich dark chocolate, coffee, some raisin, plenty of roast malt too. Palate is thick chocolate and vanilla at first, which is soon joined by a definite roasty/smokey streak. Strange but pleasant hints of plum/raisin too. Spicy hop and ash finish, and the tiniest cheeky hint of booze. This is an awesome beer.

Cask in Euston Tap. Very dark brown, good clarity and ruby edges, with creamy stout off white head. Nose is a bit strange. Cheesy, roasted malt. Taste is roasted grain, black coffee, chocolate and then with some ale fruity notes of blackberry, bit of dark fruit coming through on the finish. Body is smooth and creamy.

A decent bitter stout, but there is a little missing in the aroma, it’s just coffee. the taste is a bit medicinal and bitter. Decent.

Cask, Sheffield Tap 20/07/11. I’m going to have to get the head brewer, Stuart Ross, to talk me through the malt bill for this one. Again. Because it works so well, it puts such strength and depth and suppleness in, that I still can’t believe how he’s conjured it up. I can nearly always find fault with a cask stout - maybe a touch acetic, or too much ashtray - but this was bob on. Three things: I need more of it. I need to drink this at the end of a long snowy walk in front of a roaring log fire. And I absolutley bloody well demand that it’s made stronger, shoved in a wooden cask of some sort and matured into a barrel-aged monster. Just go easy on the snozzberries...

Bottle@Home. Coffee and black currant aroma. Black, brown head, good lace. Sweetish, loads of dark malts, black currant, coffee, black chocolate. Full and dry. Flavourful, easy, yet powerful.

On tap at CPK, London. Pours a dark brown / black-ish colour with a small brown head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate and espresso notes. Taste is similar, roasty with good chocolate and espresso notes and a lingering bitterness. Slight acidity on the tongue as well. Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation. Very nice and tasty stout for sure.
