High Wire is our tribute to the Pale Ales of the West Coast of America, beers unapologetically hop forward in character. Let your taste buds walk this test of balance. Mango, lychee and lip-smacking grapefruit flavours harmonise against a smoothly composed malt base, which develops into a crisply bitter finish. Are you ready for our tightrope of taste. .?

On tap @Cimmeria. Fruity, citrus, hoppy aromas. Pours clear gold, with nice white head, persistent, some lacing. Medium body, average carbonation, some crispy texture. Taste is citrus, fruity, some peachy. Smooth, quaffable, balanced, enjoyable. Dry aftertaste. Nice one.

Snifter on tap at Neon’s. Hazy, sort of darker orange color. Thin off-white head, few ropes of lace. Nice, smooth crisp carbonation. Medium body. More dry finish. Good toasty malt aroma, light caramel. I actually like this more than the Carnival. It doesn’t try to feature the hops as a primary showcase, actually has an interesting malt profile to carry it. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, minimal sweet. Drinks like a solid American pale ale, good flavor for the lighter ABV. I enjoyed this more than expected.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 2014-07-05. Crisp dark yellow body modest frothy white head and nice lace. 3+ Aroma is very lightly yeasty, fruity modest hops, grassy, mild malt. Flavour is fairly bitter and hoppy throughout, hops are a bit green and grassy, some fruit character beyond that. Lingering bitterness into the finish. Smooth average bodied palate, light carbonation. 6/3/7/3/13-14 Cask at Marine Hotel, Stonehaven.

2013-10-19. Crisp orange amber body with a small frothy white head. Aroma is odd and grassy, and a little bit poopy at times. Flavour is much better, mildly bitter grassy hop character, moderate bitterness. Average bodied palate, low carbonation. Did not care for it, giving it the benefit of the doubt I’m assuming it did not travel well. 5/3/6/3/12 Session 1, Cask Days 2013, Toronto

Bright golden orange colour. Aroma is piney resin, quite tight. Taste is pine resin too and a little grapefruit (but not much). Very tight and mouth-puckeringly bitter but a nice balance with maltyness. Punches above its 5.5% abv.

Pale orange. Some hops, malt. Hops well-balanced with the rest here but not super in your face. Good session pale ale. Cask Days 2013.

Cask Days 2013. Very nice quintessential understated British pale. Only 30 IBU, with faint hop aroma. Highly drinkable, but flavours did not come out distinctive .
