COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

Good Black IPA. Very dark , almost perfect black. Small head. My bottle was a little too cold, taste improved as drink warmed.

My Bottom Line:
This super grassy Black IPA shares a few grapes and citrus fruit within coniferous resins.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A mushroom of foam sprouts from the blackness, leaving plenty of lacing on the edges of the glass.
-The grassy hop component is prevalent from nose to aftertaste.
-This is not an easy drinking example; it’s intense, and perhaps brash too.
-The resinous hop presence is sometimes redolent of longly steeped leaves.
-The mouthfeel is a bit bulky.
-This is packed with flavour, no doubt. It would surely be a hit in the USA.

On tap at The Evening Star, Brighton.

Tap at Haand festival 2013. Black bodied, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and tons of fruity hops, light chocolate and salt licorice. Taste is massive citrus hoppy, coffee, leather, dry and clean bitterness, very nicely balanced. Refreshing bitter aftertaste. A great brew!

Really deep dark brown - basically black, with a huge off-white head. Aroma of skunky, floral, orange-citrus hops and nutty, roasty malt. Flavour is light sweet and meium bitter with a long finish. Texture is oily with light carbonation. An excellent beer.

Cola-like color: clear brown/red, near black in glass, creamy off-white one finger head and nice lacing. Fruity hoppy aroma has citrus, tropical fruits, bit pine, dark slightly roasted malt is sweet: bit dark caramel. Good aroma. Crisp feel is bitter with citrus-pine dryness, bit roasted coffee, dark dry chocolate and ash, smooth but tingling, long dry-bitter finish. Well done tasty IPA that has lots character and nuances.

Big beige lasting head. Dark opaque body. Resiny meaty tropical fruit taste with catty notes. Dry-sweet resiny earthy roasty taste with catty pineapple notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish earthy plastic rubbery aftertaste with wooden spicy roasty notes. Weird. Didn’t like this much. I guess black IPA with Simcoe-like hops is not my thing. Black in glass, thin beige head. Smells of roast, herbs, citrus and zests. Moderate sweet, roast and hints of coffee. Medium bitter with resins and zests. High class BIPA, very drinkable.

On tap at Haand Festival 2013. Pours black with a nice, medium offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malts with notes of tropical fruits, coffee and hops. Well balanced beer with medium bitterness, meduim body, light sweetness. Very nice BIPA.

This is up there. Really is quite splendid. Black and pale, like my arms. You should see what I’ve got planned next. Love Magic Rock.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark black pour with thin off white head, big pine hop aroma, piney hops come through in the taste and some citrus quite oily mouthfeel very resinous only a whiff of roasted malts.
