3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from keg at Grove Inn. Almost black as pitch. Shiny naked surface, dotted spots on the glass. Aroma of roasted, earthy malts. Dark fruity and dark honeyed flavours alongside coffee grounds leading to a long-lived ending of malty bitterness. Well bodied. A lovely, tasty drink (Huddersfield 09.07.2014).

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled 05/05/12. A black beer with a thin beige coloured head. Good grapefruit hoppiness in the nose with more roast than other BIPAs. Similar in the mouth. Very bitter and hoppy but also pretty roasty. Pretty dry. Nice no doubt but not your typical BIPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
This super grassy Black IPA shares a few grapes and citrus fruit within coniferous resins.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A mushroom of foam sprouts from the blackness, leaving plenty of lacing on the edges of the glass.
-The grassy hop component is prevalent from nose to aftertaste.
-This is not an easy drinking example; it’s intense, and perhaps brash too.
-The resinous hop presence is sometimes redolent of longly steeped leaves.
-The mouthfeel is a bit bulky.
-This is packed with flavour, no doubt. It would surely be a hit in the USA.
On tap at The Evening Star, Brighton.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at CP&K. It pours jet black, with a thick beige head. The nose is pine, resin, toffee, charcoal, toast, roasted malt and charred wood. The taste is liquorice, resinous hops, salted caramel, dark toffee, pine, alcohol warmth, smoke, charcoal, leaf, toast and roasted malt, with a long bitter-sweet finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. A flavoursome black IPA.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 7, 2012 Bottle from ’Jacks’ Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon 07.02.12 consumed at home 09.02.12 Pours black with off white head. Good aroma, quite meaty and up front though not just with hops, some coffee, oxtail soup and pine. Taste is quite full on with good chocolate base that is loaded with hops, piney and also grapefruit but as good as the hops are, there is a lot of other stuff here, the maltiness comes to the fore and there is coffee also. Great beer. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov17 4.1 I had this again in bottle at MyBreweryTap, North Street, Brighton,Saturday 5th May 2012 The beer was faultless, the bar however really needs to sort out some of the niggles, it just felt a bit rushed and cheap. Great beer, I cannot really add to my previous review suffice to say that it is equally good in bottle as it is on tap (I had it on tap up in Leeds). A very fine example of a Black IPA. 4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
STUNNING, hop-smothered aroma; strawberry chew and guava with a waft of peated malt, smoked mackerel with black peppercorns, and patachouli incense rearing up in the background. About as perfect a marrage of hops and malts as I can imagine. Taste: yes. Breakfast mostly- juice, smoked mackerel, slices of fresh papaya, big slug of Laphroaig. I’m not usually up for breakfast but I’d imagine that’s what people have. Body: thick, slimy malt. Good as pitch with a firm, speckling tan head. One of the few BIPAs I’ve had that genuinely fuses the citrus and smoke without either detracting from the other. Discordant, harmonious, whatever. Delicious beer.
