COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

Bottle from MyBrewerytap.com. Pours pitch black with a big frothy tanned head. Aroma is heavy malty, light roasted and meaty, good hoppy aromas as well, piney and spruce, lovely. Taste is light sweet chocolate and caramel, smooth and filling mouthfeel, hops mix in to make a good balanced brew, with some good citrus and piney notes.Finishes off with a lingering sweet liquorice and bitter pine bite. On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, large and creamy beige head. Pleasant aroma of fruity and piney hops, with some mild roasty notes in the background. Delightful flavour of luscious hops, with a mildly roasty and hoppy bitterness in the finish. Good stuff!

From tap @Kick, Kristiansand. Opaque black. Dense fingerthick tanned head. Oily and leafy hops up front, with a note of citrus zest. Then a smell of ashy and chocolatey, well roasted dark malts. Taste is boldly bitter with a resiny-fruity hop flavor. Lots of chocolate malts. Notes of licorice, pepper, ash and rounded roastiness. Good body. Creamy mouthfeel. Complex, balanced and flavorfull. Yum! [01.12.12]

On tap @ Kickl. Close to black body with a medium sized beige head. Nice citric fruity hop aroma with hint of chocolate. Flavor is sweet malty, light roasted, citric fruit, rather bitter and fine balance. Medium body, bitter and sweet aftertaste, quite smooth. A pleasant black IPA.

Bottle. Pours black with a big ol’ tan head. The nose is a bit spicy, plenty of wood, grassy hops, some bitter chocolate too. The taste is initially dry, a bit peppery, hoppy with hints of tropical fruits dipped in chocolate. The finish is long, flavorful. The body’s medium, the carbonation active. Overall, a very nice black IPA.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Looks amazing and smells pretty darnt good too. Mouthfeel is smooth and ashy. Taste is different to what I expectorant it to beed. Notes of smoke, blackcurrant. It’s finishes a little like an English Strong Ale, with a bit of tree, tobacco and roots. Thick and smooth on tongue. Very nice.
