From tap @Kick, Kristiansand. Opaque black. Dense fingerthick tanned head. Oily and leafy hops up front, with a note of citrus zest. Then a smell of ashy and chocolatey, well roasted dark malts. Taste is boldly bitter with a resiny-fruity hop flavor. Lots of chocolate malts. Notes of licorice, pepper, ash and rounded roastiness. Good body. Creamy mouthfeel. Complex, balanced and flavorfull. Yum! [01.12.12]

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Looks amazing and smells pretty darnt good too. Mouthfeel is smooth and ashy. Taste is different to what I expectorant it to beed. Notes of smoke, blackcurrant. It’s finishes a little like an English Strong Ale, with a bit of tree, tobacco and roots. Thick and smooth on tongue. Very nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours black with a big ol’ tan head. The nose is a bit spicy, plenty of wood, grassy hops, some bitter chocolate too. The taste is initially dry, a bit peppery, hoppy with hints of tropical fruits dipped in chocolate. The finish is long, flavorful. The body’s medium, the carbonation active. Overall, a very nice black IPA.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Luvians, St Andrews. A black beer with a fair, light tan head. Aroma is lovely with passion fruit and grapefruit hop characters, presumably Nelson Sauvin. Juicy passion fruit and pineapple hop flavours give way to coffee, roasty malt, burnt toast and chocolate. The flavours are intense but this is a seriously drinkable beer. I would love to try this on cask. Brilliant stuff!
