COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

330ml bottle. Opaque black with superb off-white to beige frothy lacing and lasting head. Wonderful typical (American) IPA hoppy aroma with a sweet dark malt undertone, herbes. Soft beginning, a taste like a walk in the forrest, blueberry, resin, coniferes, a dry mouthfeel throughout, decent sweetness, decent sourness - what a combination! This is awesome, full of flavour but oh so drinkable. Superb!

330ml bottle from Ales By Mail

BBE May 2013 - Pours pitch black with a foamy white head. Aroma of roasty malts, grassy hop pallets, hints of coffee and fruits. Taste is roasty, slightly fruity and grassy with some bitterness, hints of coffee and cocoa. Finish is sweetish, bitter and dry with some roastiness and hints of grass. Quite tasty, perhaps would be even better from a fresh bottle.

Keg at the cock tavern. Barmaid poured me a pint by accidentally. Aroma is really nice fruity citrus tropical fruit and touch of roast. Opaque black and dark caramel with a persistent cream head and some lace. Really nice citrus hop and fruit just a hint of choc and roast. Good.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Looks amazing and smells pretty darnt good too. Mouthfeel is smooth and ashy. Taste is different to what I expectorant it to beed. Notes of smoke, blackcurrant. It’s finishes a little like an English Strong Ale, with a bit of tree, tobacco and roots. Thick and smooth on tongue. Very nice.

On tap @ CASK Pub & Kitchen, London. This is a deep dark brown one with a lacing light ashy head. It really has lot’s of coffee beans on the aroma. Chocolate and cocoa also, but the coffee beans is dominating. Really good flavors here! Light roasted with chocolate, bitter chocolate and some cold coffee. Feels well balanced and it’s quite easy and clean. Average carbonation, full-bodied. Tasty! 22.07.2012

Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is citrus, spice, chocolate, and fresh coffee. Taste is quite fruity with a moderate amount of hop bitterness. The backbone of the roasty malts blends in well with the IPA character. A well-executed example of the style.

On tap, but I forgot which pub it was. Hoppy smell with grapefruit and citrus, dark bread and chocolate. Similar taste. Nice.

On tap. Clear deep ruby brown with off white head. Aroma sweet and pleasant, caramel, candy, perfume. Taste is a little less sweet, some rougher roasted notes, liquorice, rye, with a bitter/astringent finish.

Bottle from mr_h. Hop & tar aroma. Very dark brown colour, not much head. Hoppy flavour. Smooth with bitter aftertaste. Good but not the best black IPA.
