COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

(330ml Bottle) The most reserved ’Black IPA’ I think ive drunk , not that ive had loads, but this feels more resemblance to an American stout with the customary abundant use of aromatic hops , than a marring of two styles. Deep jet black, attractive beige head. Nose is hoppy and dark ,basically . On the palate, resiny bitter hops are tropical ,floral ,zesty and bitter ...dark malts are a bit subdued but ’there’ in muted sense .

Bottle. Purple-tan medium head. Jet black body. Massive whiff of grapefruit and passionfruit. Some smokiness. Good amount of lasting bitterness which leads to a dry finish. Decent amount of body.

As many an ardent suitor may have said to Cleopatra: "What a lovely nose!" And in this case, it really is. Vineous, sinewy, sweet and sour and full of molasses, citrus and spice. The flavour that follows, though great, sadly doesn’t live up to the promise. It’s good, mind - bitter, sharp, dry and hoppy - but let down slightly by a thin mouthfeel and a tiny touch too much of the dirty socks. Nevertheless, if only for the nose alone a great brew with complexity, distinction, and a fair wallop of ancient Egyptian promise.

Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Nose is light pine, burnt rubber, BBQ sauce and a little smoke. Taste is good bitter with a small sweet balance. Mouthfeel is crisp and oily. Long aftertaste. Light body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Rehills in Newcastle. Inky black with a rich sour fruity? and burnt currant flavour, notes of tropical fruit and roasted coffee on the finish.

Very dark, extremely hoppy with hints of smoke, nut and some caramel sweetness. Well-rounded and enjoyable beer.

Bottle from Sheffield Tap. Black with a little yellow cream head. Light stout aroma with some hops. A touch smoked, deep stout. A bit like Fullers Past Masters stout but lighter. Good.

Bottle. Pours near black with a tan head. A really good black IPA, it manages to balance the dark malts and IPA hops perfectly. Very good.

Keg. Black, beige head. Roasted malts, dark chocolate in the nose. Taste of roasted malts and tropical fruits. Hops linger.
