COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Looks amazing and smells pretty darnt good too. Mouthfeel is smooth and ashy. Taste is different to what I expectorant it to beed. Notes of smoke, blackcurrant. It’s finishes a little like an English Strong Ale, with a bit of tree, tobacco and roots. Thick and smooth on tongue. Very nice.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2012 33cl bottle. Pours jet black with big frothy tan head, plenty of lacing. Aroma full of pine, citrus, light tropical notes - a real C-hop hit; slight roasted and coffee notes in there too. Taste is much more on the dark side with coffee, molasses, roasted barley as well as those juicy hop notes - great balance. Full, silky mouthfeel, lovely lasting aftertaste - an appealing mix of both roasted notes and bitter hops - great BIPA.

Bottled 05/05/12. A black beer with a thin beige coloured head. Good grapefruit hoppiness in the nose with more roast than other BIPAs. Similar in the mouth. Very bitter and hoppy but also pretty roasty. Pretty dry. Nice no doubt but not your typical BIPA.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Black pour with a beige head. Sweetcorn, blackcurrant and blackberry nose. Nice. Dark fruit flavour with a hint of malt and caramel. Quite a smooth character. Long bitter-sweet finish.

Opens with a heavy fruity aroma, pours almost jet black with a large off-white / purple head, which reduces soon after but retains a foam. Lots of fruity & malty hops in the taste, more sweet but some bitterness coming through at the finish. Quite soft carbonation with a slick palate. Nice Black IPA

Bottle. Purple-tan medium head. Jet black body. Massive whiff of grapefruit and passionfruit. Some smokiness. Good amount of lasting bitterness which leads to a dry finish. Decent amount of body.

330ml- pitch black pour - nice light brown solid head that lasts - loads going on - aroma tropical fruits, shoe polish - with eyes closed it tastes like a hoppy amber ale - great example of what a Black IPA should be (to me anyway)
