Nice porter, excellent character, not sure about the chili element necessarily, but very good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
cask@Baring Hall Hotel, Grove Park - black pour with medium dark brown head. Aroma and taste is roasted malty, slight burned nuance, toasty, chocolate cake, slight coffee, brown sugar, it has a great chilli warmth in the finish, not to much, and well judged to my taste. Impressive.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at Cask PK. Black, small white head doesn’t endure. ’Aroma’ of ashtray, if you can call that an aroma. Body is light, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is watery slight coffee and more watery dark malts. Everything is watery and insipid...apart from that nice potent chipotle heat that builds. I really like the level of that chipotle heat but the body and taste of the base beer is absolutely cach. Without the chipotle, I think this would be way below average. As it stands, it’s pretty good. Such are the fine margins of craft beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: toasted coffee malts, hints of dark chocolate. Appearance: dark brown, small white head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: toasted malts again, chocolate, average-long dry finish. Overall: decent Porter, struggles to stand out from the crowds though. Pint at the Southampton Arms, Highgate.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask-conditioned at the Gryphon, Bristol 1/3/2014. Jet black with a decent, tan head. Plain chocolate and roasted malts, with some chilli in the flavour that also left some long lasting warmth after the dryish finish. Very good.

Tap. Pitch black color. Small size, brown fizzy head. Delicate roast, sweet, tender spicyness, dusty chocolate, mild milkyness in aroma. Smells nice. Medium roast, chocolate, cocoa powder, chilly flavor. Chilly hammers your tastebuds in aftertaste. Watery texture, but still very very drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Festival ’14. Black with cream head. Ok, I was somewhat amiss here but I hadn’t noticed that it was a chilli beer before I took my first quaff and my first notes are spicy, peppery, hot! Well the chillies certainly delivered but in quite a pleasant way as they were balanced with chocolate, cocoa malts and a blackcurrant fruity element. Some smokiness, almost sausage like. Very good and well worth trying.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at Merton Winter Beer Festival. Black beer lasting tan head. Lovely dark bitter chocolate on aroma. Chilli kicks in the flavour. I mean just too hot. Not stupid hot but enough to mean all I can taste is chilli and not beer. Some malt roast and chocolate on the finish. Too much chilli for me but not a badly made beer.

Tap (Toit’s, Tallinn)
Black, tight beige head. Glorious chocolatey aroma. Refreshing palate, crisp carbonation, but nicely full in the mouth. Lovely rich porter taste. good dark roast, toasty, burnt, but of coffee. Much more coffee in the finish. Chilli kept wonderfully subtle, just a nice warmth that lets you know it’s been there. Went back for more of this. And then went back for even more. Cancelled all the shitty ticks I had earlier in the evening - yay!
