(Cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London, 19 July 2011) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with grapefruit, red fruit and spicy hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of red fruit, hints of grapefruit and spicy hops in the finish. Medium body, fairly dry, with a generous bitterness. Quite nice.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
[330ml bottle] Chestnut reddish brown pour, again almost totally flat after an initial flurry. Very inviting bitter hoppy aromas, sweet caramel in there as well, quite floral. Tastewise the immediate comparison was BrewDog’s 5am Saint – they are very similar. However, Rapture isn’t as hoppy, the malts have more say – reasonably sweet, but not overly so, the woody notes compete with the piney hops – and the end result is pretty pleasing. I got a bit of smoke in the aftertaste as well, which was interesting

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask - The Southampton Arms, London. Fine & bubbly lasting beige head atop a cloudy, ruddy amber body. Fresh & vibrant grapefruit, peach, strawberry & pine aromas. Pine, gently resinous & grapefruit flavour profile. Cracking depth for the ABV in my book. Nice contrast between an initial juiciness and a finishing dryness. Soft, rounded & firm mouthfeel, gently spritzy crisp carbonation, medium body, big lingering zesty grapefruit bitter finish with a hint of mid berry in the aftertaste. Plenty to offer without going overboard & remaining effortlessly drinkable.

On tap at Craft Beer. Slightly hazy amber beer. Tiny white head. Smooth low carbonation palate. Lots of piney fresh hops. Trace of sulphur. Smooth finish. Decent enough, lacking a little body. Original rating 3.3.

Hazy red-brown beer, little off white head. Light dry palate. Good malt backbone with a very light trace of smoke. Nice red fruits, some orange fruit too. Semi dry finish with a mildly bitter aftertaste.

From cask. Pours dark orange to brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, grapefruity, peachy and citrusy hoppy. Crisp bitter, fruity and subdued sweet. Bitter and lingering floral fruity into a dry and peachy to grapefruity hoppy finish.

It looks great - lovely chestnut colour and a nice, but quick dying head. Perhaps it was because I had it after the Cannonball and High Wire, but it found it a bit lightweight. There were some toffee notes in there and a bit of toffee/caramel taste, and it’s not a bad beer by any stretch of the imagination, it’s just that my personal taste runs to hoppy, often US beers.

33cl bottle thanks to Chris Mair! Pours light chestnut with an orange hue. There is a nice head but it mostly disappears in the first couple of minutes. The nose has some raisin malt but is mostly pine and grapefruit pith. The taste has more grapefruit and pith with not sweet malt to talk of. The palate has a medium body and texture with a very fresh and zingy finish. Overall, it’s a good beer for the hopheads, but it needs a little more malt sweetness for me, so it is very flavoursome but lacks balance.
