A beer both sumptuously malty yet enthrallingly hoppy, we teamed up with our friends at Dark Star for this show stopper of a beer. Multiple hop additions mean massive aromas of lemongrass, strawberry and pine, which develop on the palate while a complex malt bill delivers sweet waves of hazelnut, caramel and summer berry flavours. The finish is balanced, moreish yet crisply classy. Get ready to be entertained, Rock Star has entered the building!

Rich, malty brown ale with just the right amount of bitterness on top. Long piney tail as well. Confirming their status as one of my favourite breweries.

Draft at King William IV. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of big roasted coffee, dark chocolate, hops and burnt malt. Flavour is moderate sweet and heavy bitter, with a long bitter finish. Full bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.

Cask at King Willliam IV, Leyton. Poured a super dark mahogany with a thin tan broken head and broken lace. The aroma is fruity with malt. The flavour is huge liqourice, bitter and dark chocolate. A lovely chewy and very refreshing ale. A winner from Magic Rock.

[keg at the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh] Dark reddish amber beer with a nice white head – looks lovely in the glass. Aroma is mostly of sweet, toffee malt, with some topical fruit and richer stone fruit. Great balance of malts on the flavour – roasty caramel malt at first, before becoming progressively sweeter and fruitier. I got a lot more of that dark stone fruit on the finish, along with a slug of sweet toffee. Very nice [18122012]

King Willliam IV. Keg. Cloudy dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Fresh and slightly soft palate but with nice crispy carbonation. Smooth creamy malt. Minerals. Mellow marmalade hops with a nice touch of red berry fruits. Mellow bitterness. Finishes semi dry and smooth. Well balanced Brown Ale - hugely drinkable,

At first this reminded me of Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye until I reflected and understood this this is much more refined. Very much like how it begins with some malty and smooth before heading into a pinetastic assault. Good depth and dimension here.
