Deep brown pour. The nose is quite soft and lovely. Chewy and a little bit toasty. There is a soft earthy/cocoaish flavour with a light astringency on the finish. Softly hoppy finish with a nice herbal hop aroma that comes out as it starts to warm up. A little bit of roast on the finish as well. Pretty solid mild ale.

Dark copper brown with fizzy white head. Faint grain aroma and a nice malty caramel and toffee taste. Very drinkable.

On tap at the source. Pours with a ruby hued body with a fading tan head. Aromas are of caramel, fruit, medium esters and discreetly hopped. Some bready notes, but the malt bill is only mildly interesting (Iet alone complex). Flavors are dry, nutty, and cola like. Watery (as to be expected a bit) with light chocolate notes. Medium bubbles and estery. Notes of freshly popped popcorn (sans butter). Light bubbles.

Cask at Toronado. Dark brown/garnet. Modest, frothy, off white head. Well roasted malt, old wood, bittersweet, earthy, lightly vegetal. Light/medium body, smooth. Usualy vegetal elements will kill a beer for me, but they actually work well here. Easy drinking session with some nice roast.

marcus (4065) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 4, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a molasses flavor and subtle hop bitterness. The flavor is pretty thin, but then this is a 3.6% brew.

Dark brown in color with a tall off-white head. Slightly buttery, soap, and roast on the nose. Some earthy hops, toast, and caramel malt save it, though. Flavor is quite heavy on the mineral notes, a bit metallic, maybe some chocolate and coffee. Meh.

Tap at the brewpub: Brownish amber pour with an off white film. Nutty aroma- slightly chocolaty (hazelnut notes). Thin bodied with an earthy malt flavor. Gritty, dark grains, a bit thin and fizzy. Peanut brittle notes. Nutty on the back with a husky bitterness. OK.

On tap at The Alembic, SF. Roiling, dusky dark brown pour with copper gleaming from within and a thick, healthy head. Nose of slight roasted malts, bracing yeastiness, and a dose of earthy hops. It’s a moderately successful attempt, flavorful and solid. And it certainly goes well with those vicious chilis on the app menu. But nothing to go nuts for.

Darker colored, looks like a porter. Aroma is cocoa, chocolate, some coffee and caramel. Medium to light bodied, quite drinkable. Mild is a good word to describe it.

Thought this was the brown when looking at it. Very mild. Thought it lack something. Not bad, but not their best
