Our tribute to Cologne’s unique, crisp, golden ale/lager hybrid. We start with German malt and hops and tie it all together with a true Kolsch yeast from Cologne to impart some subtle fruit and wine flavors while producing the smoothness of a lager. Served in an authentic Kolsch stange to enchance the crisp, cool, effervescence of this thirst-quenching beer. Malts: German pilsner, Munich and wheat Hops: German Spalt and Hersbrucker

9 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub in appropriate glassware. The aroma is faintly sweet with some cereal and some delicate metallic hop character. Really awesome nose on this beer. Transparent golden body with a small, white head and plenty of fine bubbles. Starts with some mildly spicy hop flavor. Becomes a bit malty with some primarily biscuit character. Finishes with some minerally character and a moderately spicy hop kick to finish. Uber refreshing. A really solid example of the style, and you can definitely tell they paid attention to the water profile with this brew.

This pours a very clear yellow in a small glass. White head of medium bubbles and lots of lace w/ a grain aroma. This is a bit hoppier than I’d expect for the style and the extra bitterness might be a nice surprise for Pilsener fans but I don’t think it quite worked. A bit of lemon citrus from the hops compliments the overall grainy taste.

As far Kolsch style ales go, this one isn’t bad. A nice bit of refreshing malt flavor just creeping in. A decent beer.

Celebrator anniversary party 2011. It pours straw yellow with a nice white head. The aroma is freshly cut grains. The flavor is dry and grainy with mild hints of butter and banana. Nice refreshing beer.
