Draught at the brewpub. Clear pale golden, no head. Fruity, perfumy nose. Sweet and fruty with some grassy hops and sparkling mouthfeel. Some unfortunate notes of syrup before a grassy, salty finish. A very decent kölsch.
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gorbalev (2818) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 29, 2005
On tap at the brewpub. Medium yellow, small white head - a few nice streaming bubbles as well. Very light grain aroma with slight hops. Light active mouthfeel. Interesting dry hop (not dry-hopped) taste - makes the finish very short. Hops are almost white wine like in their bitterness - I’m having a hard time describing it, but this is my first Kolsch, perhaps this is a characteristic of the style? I thought it was like a thicker pils. Ok, not sure if it is to style, but it is quenching and drinkable, just a little bland and non-existent aroma.

On tap at the San Francisco "Brews on the Bay" Festival. Light golden pour, crisp white head. Aroma is lemony and buttery. Flavor has some good buttery and salty notes, very sweet and refreshing. Very flavorful Kolsch. Highly carbonated.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 mwsf (360) - San Francisco, California, USA - DEC 16, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2003 Not the best Kolsch I"ve had but it"s getting better by the batch. Fairly dry, slightly winey, subtle hop bitterness, aroma, and flavor, cloudy. A little lifeless compared to other Kolsches. Contains a little of the trademark Magnolia"s breadiness, which detracts from the clean, crisp quality desired in most Kolsches and doesn"t really work in this beer.
2002-12-16 - Yet another rating of this beer. Still bready. Still grainy. Not a great kolsch. These guys brew some killer beers but should stick to what they do well -- English-style cask conditioned ales.
