A - Served a dark black color with a finger of frothy tan-chocolate head. The head fades down slowly leaving behind lots of lace. S - Aroma is full of roasted chocolate malts with some caramel, some light smokiness, and a bit of burnt smells. T - Starts off with some roasted and slightly burnt chocolate malts with some light earthy hops. Through the middle some smoke comes through with a touch of bitterness. The finish mix of bitter chocolate with some roasted and burnt malts and some Belgian yeast. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry finish. D - Very drinkable. The Belgian flavors were not very strong here and the hop were fairly mild. Fairly well balanced, but just a bit empty.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours with a black body with a small tan head. Aromas are of light fruit, esters, roast, molasses and hops. Flavors are of molasses, dark fruit, pear, nutty, esters, berries, mild hops and quite dry overall. Coffee and some cereal flavors. Medium to medium low carbonation. Dry. As always, a more than passable offering from Magnolia. Although the rarely hit it out of the park, their beers are always well made, and never bad by any means.

Just about black in color, big tan head. Smells roasty and slightly smokey, a bit musty. Not really any hop aroma. Smokey and roasty, no real hop flavor to it, either. At least it not buttery and metallic.

Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Sweet chocolate malt aroma and taste with some banana and coffee notes. Good.
