DuffMan (1890), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 25, 2007 On tap at the brewpub in San Francisco. Clear amber brown. Caramel aroma, a little bready. Moderately sweet caramel malt, perhaps a faintly fruity quality, but pretty straightforward actually. Low-key, but not unpleasant. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Nuffield (2532), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2007 Cleaner than the Blue Bell Bitter, equally amber, with a white head. Distinctly bitter finish, generally malty profile. I wish "milds" in America were more in the tradition of the "lite stouts". (on tap at brewpub) beervana (782), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Jun 21, 2007 (06.21.07) On tap at Magnolia Pub and Brewery, San Francisco, CA. 3.9% ABV. Clear dark brown ale with tiny white head. No discernable carbonation. No discernable aroma. Starts dry with very slight nutty flavor. Short finish with light malt fade. No discernable hop presence. Light to medium bodied. This beer has very little flavor, almost like water. A mediocre offering. pivo (2481), Germany May 28, 2007 Light malt nose, deep amber color, frothy head. Toffee middle, butter and tastes of stale nuts. Very thin and flat body. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA Jan 15, 2007 pint is a slightly hazy red/brown with an excellent ruby shimmer when held up to the light. head is thin, but the beer is pretty spritzy. I chose to let this one sit for a bit, as I thought it would be better to let it warm up and flatten out some. nose was sweetly malty, with just a touch of chocolate and roast. flavor light and sweet, although I think I might have liked this out of a cask more - the carbonation gave the flavor a bit more tang than I felt the malt could support. still, it was pretty smooth, and quite easy to drink.
