Tried on tap at Magnolia pub during strong ale month. Great pub/restaurant. Pitch black. Creamy lingering small bubble head. Roasty smell. Sweet malty rich aroma. Delicious.

From tap, jet black with a nice mocha head. Big aromas of roasted malt, liquorice, dark chocolate, molasses, alcohol and a hint of fennel. The aromas carry right through to the palate. Bit of an alcohol hit but a welcoming bitterness and roastyness comes through; love the liquorice/fennel bitter aftertaste. Only downside was it was served way too cold!

On tap at the Alembic Bar in SF. Pretty solid offering. Black in color with a brown head that lasts. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Quite tasty, a lot like a Whoppers milkshake. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, and milky creaminess. Creamy and full on the palate.

Draft. Black beer with anice tan head. Light roast aroma with a bit of coffee and sweet malt - doesn’t match flavor. Roasty, caramel, chocolate flavor. Not too roasty. Everything in balance. Medium body. Lingering sweet malt, light brown sugar, chocolate, and coffee. Alcohol well hidden. Nice.

Tap @ Magnolia for Strong Ale Month 2008. Poured opaque black with a tan head. Coffee aroma with some sweet malt underneath. The flavor was roasty with notes of coffee in the finish. The mouthfeel is on the thin side for the finish. Maybe from pulling out some more alcohol from this batch. Medium bodied.
