COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dry, refreshing IPA with agressive hop character. This beer is certainly a cousin of Prescription Pale but is straw-colored, lighter bodied, and has a decidedly English hop bill. Challenger, Northdown, Fuggles and Goldings are all used although a noticable addition of Cascades keeps this ale anchored in the U.S. style. With five hop varieties and five additions this IPA has the most complex hop character of any of our beers. Pale malt comprises most of the grist but some light crystal malt and a bit of malted wheat (for taste, body and head retention) round out this beer nicely. 60BUs

(On tap) Clear, pale, amber colour with a small, lacing head. Fresh hop aroma with citrus and pine needles. Medium body with light notes of caramel but otherwise completely dominated by the dry, lightly citric aroma hops leaving a solid dose of bitterness. 210307

UPDATED: APR 5, 2006 Cask at the brewpub. Clear amber. Rich grapefruity hop aroma. Dryish with rounded mouthfeel. Some cookie malt, but grapefruity hops dominate. Licorice-like bitterness finishes it. Nice aroma, but the mouthfeel is a bit raw and unrefined.

Toasty, kind of smokey, chewy character. Light bronze hue. A little oily and a little bit sticky. Nondescript...not allowable for an IPA to bore me this much. Needs way more hop.

Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy grapefruit aroma. Slighlty sweetish malty hoppy bitter flavor. Has a sweetish malty hoppy finish.

Tasting Notes from Fall 2000: Complex, well-rounded. Bitter, still needs a bit of improvement for its finish

on tap-pours a light tan head and hazy amber color. Aroma is soft resin/herbal, some medium malt. Tase is resin/dank herbal hops, secondary medium malt-toasty/caramel.

Amber pour/thin head. The nose is fruity and a little bit herbal. A touch of fruit but it’s not really juicy at all. Softly hoppy with a touch of light estery character. Lingering bitterness but it’s not all that compelling an example.

On tap a the brewpub. Pours with a copper hued body with a white head. Aromas of suntan lotion, caramel, toffee and toast. Extremely malt forward. Flavors of caramel, tea and only a touch of citrus. Even for an English IPA, this is VERY malt forward. Medium carbonation.

Cask @ Magnolia. Medium orange, medium bitterness, chalky, nutty flavor, nice flat palate, though expected.

My Bottom Line:
Spicy and lightly resinous hoppiness decorates this lean and bubbly India Pale Ale, while mild caramel creates balance.

Further Personal Perceptions:
- A ring of foam circles the orange with bronze hues.
-This was mildly aromatic for an IPA served in California.
-Orange-like fruitiness can be found within.
-The bitterness is leafy and resinous.

On tap at the brewpub.
