COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dry, refreshing IPA with agressive hop character. This beer is certainly a cousin of Prescription Pale but is straw-colored, lighter bodied, and has a decidedly English hop bill. Challenger, Northdown, Fuggles and Goldings are all used although a noticable addition of Cascades keeps this ale anchored in the U.S. style. With five hop varieties and five additions this IPA has the most complex hop character of any of our beers. Pale malt comprises most of the grist but some light crystal malt and a bit of malted wheat (for taste, body and head retention) round out this beer nicely. 60BUs

(06.21.07) On tap at Magnolia Pub and Brewery, San Francisco, CA. 6.3% ABV. Clear golden amber ale with a small white head. Good carbonation. Very faint malt aroma. Starts dry with light toasted nutty malt flavor. Medium bodied. Short to medium length finish with light hop bitterness. Very good drinkable bitter beer. Goes well with a Cuban sandwich.

Draught @ Magnolia Pub & Brewery, San Francisco. Rated on 15.10.2012.
Pours a golden colour without a head. Aroma of herbs, grainy malts and weak floral notes. Flavour of grainy malts, metals, nuts, astrigent, herbs and some hops. Light bodied, slick mouthfeel and a rough, grainy, herbal finish. Weird.

Had on tap, cask conditioned at magnolia brew pub. Not much flavor and hops are suttle.

12 oz. Draft on Cask at Magnolia Pub and Brewery, SF, CA. Excellent hoppy, pine and flowers, scent over a cloudy copper pour with a fluffy white head. Excellent mouthfeel, thicker bodied than most IPA’s, with a dry slightly fizzy finish. The flavor started great with citrus, pine, and bitter notes, but then it took an earthy, nutty route that I wasn’t fond of. Just not my personal preference.

On tap at Magnolia. Pours clear golden orange with white head. Aromas of malt with some light citrus. Flavor is all malts with some light citrus. Where are the hops? More of a malty pale ale.

Draft... Dirty medium orange with a contrasting bright off white head... Malt bomb aroma, orange peel, caramel, ok... Tastes just like it smells, malty... Not a big fan

on tap-pours a light tan head and hazy amber color. Aroma is soft resin/herbal, some medium malt. Tase is resin/dank herbal hops, secondary medium malt-toasty/caramel.

A: The pour is a hazed amber color with a layer of foam that is off-white and leaves some mild lacing. S: A mild citrus aroma, certainly leaning more toward the floral side, like you might expect from an English IPA. The nose is pretty light, so it shows off the flaws. Seems to be some urine, and perhaps buttery. T: The hops are floral and earthy, which is nice. A bitterness that works well enough for this kind of beer, which is quite bread forward overall. There are a few hints of citrus peel, though. M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation. D: Their IPAs just don’t do much for me. Maybe because they’re of the English variety, but I don’t think that’s the case...

On tap a the brewpub. Pours with a copper hued body with a white head. Aromas of suntan lotion, caramel, toffee and toast. Extremely malt forward. Flavors of caramel, tea and only a touch of citrus. Even for an English IPA, this is VERY malt forward. Medium carbonation.

Draught at the brew pub, SF. Amber looks with a small off white head. Some fruit and grassy hop in the nose but all a bit muted. Hop profile not assertive enough in the flavour which ends up being wishy washy. Vague grainy/metallic quality which didn’t really win me over. Drinkable but rather uninspiring fayre and teetering towards the tedious.
