COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dry, refreshing IPA with agressive hop character. This beer is certainly a cousin of Prescription Pale but is straw-colored, lighter bodied, and has a decidedly English hop bill. Challenger, Northdown, Fuggles and Goldings are all used although a noticable addition of Cascades keeps this ale anchored in the U.S. style. With five hop varieties and five additions this IPA has the most complex hop character of any of our beers. Pale malt comprises most of the grist but some light crystal malt and a bit of malted wheat (for taste, body and head retention) round out this beer nicely. 60BUs

Only had a brief chance to try this on vacation, but it was sensational. As the ’commercial description’ suggests this is an Englsih style beer with its own US character. The brewer’s craft shines through.

On Cask @ the brewery. Orange/ copper apperance, almost still. Aromas of oranges, grapefruit and pine. Clean malty flavor with a good hoppy bitterness.

Classic dark orange IPA color, weak aroma of citrus hops. Taste is of stronger citrus and pine hops with a decent malt backbone. Oily mouthfeel, slightly bitter finish.

Cask conditioned at the restaurant. Pale gold. Not as much carbonation in the body as expected. Lovely citrus hops aroma and flavor.

On tap (not cask) at the brewpub. Dark orange, slick white head. Nice bread and bitter notes in aroma - fruity as well. Nicely bitter taste balanced with malt. Right on style here - a wonderful English IPA, but with a cascade touch (like the Ontario version of Headstrong). Solid and enjoyable, a good first pint here.

(06.21.07) On tap at Magnolia Pub and Brewery, San Francisco, CA. 6.3% ABV. Clear golden amber ale with a small white head. Good carbonation. Very faint malt aroma. Starts dry with light toasted nutty malt flavor. Medium bodied. Short to medium length finish with light hop bitterness. Very good drinkable bitter beer. Goes well with a Cuban sandwich.

On cask: Cloudy copper color. No head although it’s on cask so that’s somewhat to be expected. Malty aroma with some yeast, alcohol, cascade hops but not overwhelming. Well balanced malty flavor. Medium bitterness. Light caramel flavor. Some sourness. Medium body. Creamy. Pretty good British IPA although the sourness is a bit off-putting.
