3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, - JUL 9, 2010
My Bottom Line:
Spicy and lightly resinous hoppiness decorates this lean and bubbly India Pale Ale, while mild caramel creates balance.
Further Personal Perceptions:
- A ring of foam circles the orange with bronze hues.
-This was mildly aromatic for an IPA served in California.
-Orange-like fruitiness can be found within.
-The bitterness is leafy and resinous.
On tap at the brewpub.

On tap at Magnolia. Pours clear golden orange with white head. Aromas of malt with some light citrus. Flavor is all malts with some light citrus. Where are the hops? More of a malty pale ale.

Draft... Dirty medium orange with a contrasting bright off white head... Malt bomb aroma, orange peel, caramel, ok... Tastes just like it smells, malty... Not a big fan

A: The pour is a hazed amber color with a layer of foam that is off-white and leaves some mild lacing.
S: A mild citrus aroma, certainly leaning more toward the floral side, like you might expect from an English IPA. The nose is pretty light, so it shows off the flaws. Seems to be some urine, and perhaps buttery.
T: The hops are floral and earthy, which is nice. A bitterness that works well enough for this kind of beer, which is quite bread forward overall. There are a few hints of citrus peel, though.
M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation.
D: Their IPAs just don’t do much for me. Maybe because they’re of the English variety, but I don’t think that’s the case...

On tap a the brewpub. Pours with a copper hued body with a white head. Aromas of suntan lotion, caramel, toffee and toast. Extremely malt forward. Flavors of caramel, tea and only a touch of citrus. Even for an English IPA, this is VERY malt forward. Medium carbonation.

Draught at the brew pub, SF. Amber looks with a small off white head. Some fruit and grassy hop in the nose but all a bit muted. Hop profile not assertive enough in the flavour which ends up being wishy washy. Vague grainy/metallic quality which didn’t really win me over. Drinkable but rather uninspiring fayre and teetering towards the tedious.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours cloudy amber with a decent beige head and a pine aroma. There is a robust caramel malt flavor with some sharp hop bitterness.

Sample given to me by a nice waiter at the brewpub. Clear orangish yellow pour, off-white head. Caramel, sweet malt, herbal hops, and citrus. Not overly complex or anything, but I liked it for some reason.

Amber pour/thin head. The nose is fruity and a little bit herbal. A touch of fruit but it’s not really juicy at all. Softly hoppy with a touch of light estery character. Lingering bitterness but it’s not all that compelling an example.
