COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our most popular dark beer is a hearty, chewy oatmeal stout (8% oats in the grist). Lots of body, as you would expect coming from the West Coast oatmeal stout tradition. The dark, roasted character is caramel- and chocolatelike with a decided smoothness. Hops are, again, an assortment, and come across mostly in flavor and aroma, not bitterness.

On tap. Pours with a large, foamy brown head that slowly collapses on itself. An opaque black body underneath with some sediment at the bottom of the glass. Aromas are roasty, caramel, diacetyl, coffee, iodine, and licorice. Flavors are of diacetyl, caramel, roast, vanilla, cola. Biscuit, coffee, a touch chalky and smokey in the finish. Pretty dry. Creamy to slightly lively carbonation. Medium dry, a bit chalky. Medium to full body.

Good brown foam but quick to fold, oat creaminess, bit of rye, not much hops but very nice coffee and toffee flavors.

Tower. I did not think this was an oatmeal stout. Too attenuated with metallic flavors. Thin. Coffee and toffee.

On tap at Alembic (San Francisco). This dark brown ale poured with a beautiful tan head. The flavor is quite malty with a chalky finish, and there is a carbonated mouthfeel. This is a decent stout, although the flavor is a bit thin.

Draught at the brewpub. Opaque, black with a tan head. Smelled of coffee and anise. Dry on the tongue with a roasty flavor accented by dark chocolate. Roasty and bitter at the end.

Tap, Magnolia Pub and brewery, San Fransisico. Nothing spesh. Standard roast and choc, medium bittreness, decent flavours, but perhaps a little too subtle. A bit short and thin.

Tap at brewery: Not an overall great stout. Left a sharp, smokey, burnt, taste. Could have been a bad batch. The Imperial stout at the brewery on tap is much better.

Draught at the brewpub. Very black. Milky, toffeeish chocolate aroma. Sweet with near full body and mellow mouthfeel. Notes of tar, inky bitter finish. A bit rough around the edges.

Draft... Light oily black, light ring but not much head... Nose is too light, chocolatey notes, ok...the taste is much better bursting with flavor, coarse chocolate and cocoa, a light sweet.
