COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A long, long time ago, beer contained no hops. Instead, its malty sweetness was balanced with other herbs and it was known as “gruit”. The herbs used for bittering and flavor were usually a combination of wild rosemary, sweet gale and yarrow, herbs that became controversial in the Middle Ages due to their supposed stimulant and aphrodisiacal properties. Hops, known for more of a relaxing, sedative effect, replaced the gruit herbs by law during the 15th Century and modern beer was created, leaving even the name gruit behind except for the most obscure of tomes.

On tap at Magnolia. Hazy brown. Aroma of light spice and molasses. Taste is slightly rootbeer-esque... sweet but not too sweet, caramel, liquorice, spices, spicy finish. Interesting, and good enough.

A very interesting, classic style beer. Pours a beautiful thick red-brown. Smells like strawberries and herbs, and fermentation. Taste is very sweet, with some more strawberries. Very different taste then any modern beer. Had on tap at Magnolia. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

a - pours a hazy golden light cola with high tan head. Hazy effervescent brown M - light medium palate, lightly tangy, simple palate. T - strong pumpkin seeds, very floral, with honey and dough. o interesting honey flower wheat 3.1

Pours a brown colour with a small creamy head. Aroma of strong toasted almonds and raisins. Flavpur of strong and pungent almonds, toasted malts, grassy hops and bread. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Rich nutty and malty finish. Surprisingly good.

Dark amber pour with an off-white head. Acidic and roasted malt aromas with a bit of an herbal spruce note. Some chocolate, toast, and a bit of toffee maltiness. Light bitter on the palate, lots of roast, spruce, and a light herbal note. Some hints of toast, a bit of grass, and a nice toffee sweetness.

On tap. Pours with a deep, cola hued body with a medium sized tan/off-white head that fades. Aromas are nutty, caramel, brown sugar, cola, sarsaparilla, walnut, light clove, medium spicy. Flavors are malty, honey, brown sugar, nutty, cola, chamomile tea and slightly floral. Low bitterness, a bit herbal with a malty balance. Dry finish with a touch of tannin left on the tongue. Medium to slightly fuller bodied, medium-low carbonation. Very slightly warming, but otherwise the alcohol is quite well hidden.

A - Served a dark black-brown color with a finger of frothy tan-chocolate colored head. The head faded down at a normal pace leaving behind some lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of herbal and spices. There is some cardamom, coriander, sage, and rosemary. There is also some pepper and just a touch of dark fruits. T - Starts off with the herbs and spices with a nice mix of coriander, pepper, and rosemary. There is also a just a touch of grain as well. Through the middle, the spices and herbs get a bit stronger and more complex with a bit of fruit coming through. The finish is a mix of cardamom, pepper, and rosemary that lingers. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and almost a bit roasty on the tongue. D - Very drinkable. Really nice mix of spices that all balanced out very well and tasted much more rich and complex than most other herbal ales.

Draft @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty grainy aroma with spicy hints. Fruity malty grainy spicy flavor. Has a fruity malty grainy finish.
