GregClow (2318), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 27, 2007 Cask at Volo Cask Days 2007. Hazy golden-orange. Aroma is an odd but appealing mixture of tropical fruit, herbal hops, and yeast. Flavour is equally odd - starts sweet, with orange candy notes, followed by a bit of spice, and the yeast and herbal hops suggested by the flavour. The more I drank, the more I enjoyed it - in the end, it was one of my favourites of the fest. Sammy (3023), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 21, 2007 Updated: Oct 24, 2007One of the better cask beers I have ever tried, and the clear winner of Volo Cask Fest 2007 commercial beers. Something way out of the ordinary for Magnotta and a worthwhile experiment. The best beer of the fest was a homebeer. Yeast and wheat aroma. Apricot-peach colour with soap head. Medium bitter, with a dryness followed by a refreshing wave. Coating of yeast all the way through. And there you are in the finish, with the yeast sediment funking it up HogTownHarry (3175), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 24, 2007 Cask. At Volo Casks Days ’07. A truly odd duck - didn’t like it at first, by the end of my glass I was impressed. Hazy orange pour, average off-white head. Odd, sour/funky/dry/yeast/herbal hop aroma - way too much coming at me all at once; dusty dry, oddly sweet, like pollen. Rotating tastes; floral hops, then almost sour fruit, then funkiness, then ... well, it had a dry, sharply bitter finish at least. Sticky, lively, dry/yeasty mouthfeel, with a long sharply bitter linger. Odd, but pretty solid - in a vague way it reminded me of the Chouffe Houblon - a beer straddling styles and pulling me in two directions at once. Appearance :Medium thick haze , bright amber with fine fizz and fragmental lace. Nose :
Spiced aroma . Confusing set: wheat with bitter hops , tropical fruit punch, peach with white pepper. Flavour/Palate : Soft bodied, gentle fabric with smooth hop character weave onto. Grainy, fruity middle. Very refreshing, pleasing brew. Please put my vote to make this regular member of Magnotta Brewery.7+
blankboy (2562), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 24, 2007 Cask at ’Volo Cask Days ’07’. This was an odd one to describe. Good, but odd. Pours a cloudy orange with a spare lasting creamy off-white head. Slightly mild aroma of fruit, yeast and hops -- that’s the best description I can give. Flavour of wheat, yeast, lots of fruit, mild hops and some light funkyness -- again, that’s the best I can do to describe this odd yet compelling beer. Medium bodied. Nice to see Magnotta experimenting like this -- keep it up guys!
