Best beer I tried at Mahogany. A nice semi-complex, somewhat toasty/biscuity malt character that works pretty well with the slightly citrusy hop character. Very much between and amber and a pale ale. Not amazing, but pretty well crafted and certainly enjoyable.

Pours a nice amber, with a decent frothy head. Slight aroma, and the flavour is almost between an amber and a pale ale. Somewhat hoppy for an amber - it has a long and bitter finish.

Bland and boring? Hmmm. Maybe it was that I had just gotten into town after an unexpected 4 hour drive but finding the words ’brewery’ at 10:30pm and ordering an Alpenglo out on the patio seemed less than bland. The beer has a nice toasty quality balanced well with hops. The malt - biscuit malt perhaps - works in conjunction with the yeast to produce a really nice malty grainy taste. Good stuff.

I was told by the bartender that this is the only beer they always have on tap. Their many other beers are rotated in and out throughout the year. Draft (rerate): Very light and creamy texture. Malts were lightly sweet, with notes of choolate. Toasty aromas. Mild, snappy bitterness (flowers). Hops provided some citrusy notes, a little sourness and some bitterness ... but they seemed to be lacking a little in the aroma department. Over time, bitterness built a little, but was rather one-dimensional. Overall, no major off-flavors to complain about. It did seem to have a much better "roasty-toasty-biscuity" quality compared to a year ago. Still, I thought it was your run-of-the-mill amber.
