3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 14, 2007 Sweet, coffeeish Dunkel with ruby-black body and dimpled, off-white head. Maybe a little lacking in roastiness or body, but what the hell? Slips down silkily. Pleasant and uncomplicated. (Re-rate 3/4/07) Quite a teasing snout for a Spaniard. Gently smoky roasted malt with suggestions of dark fruit, licorice and bitter chocolate. A sniff of waxiness. Creamier and fuller bodied than other Iberian efforts in this style. Well retained tan suds. Smoothly roasty with a hint of beechwood smokiness. Quite a charred, lingering bitterness in the aftertaste.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from supermarket, Barcelona. A lot better than I thought it would be, this dark red beer was caramelly, malty, syrupy and reasonably malty then developed some bitterness (a bit caustic) and a subtle toffee character in the finish. I didn’t get any roast but maybe a hint of liquorice? For Carlsberg, a revelation.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Great American Dark Lager brewed by Mahou - surely the best beer that I have had until now in the country of eternal sun. Very nice head and the colour simply is fantastic - brown / black. Incredible mild stouty flavour...

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Thanks Roger Furseth.
All sweaty with brewing dust all over I might be biased. Mahogany colour, off-white/yellow-ish head. Schwarzbier nose - light roasrty and dark malty, with vague hop notes in the background. Flavour is soft malty with a light sweet licorice tone. Seems very well balanced with a yummy licoricy ending.

330 ml bottle. Dark brown, almost black, with a reddish hue. Off-white head that falls down quickly. Caramel malt aroma. Clearly a lager. Smooth malty flavour. Medium-to-thin body. Soft roasted malts. Almost no hops detected.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark reddish brown lager with a thin collapsing moka head. Sweet fruity aroma, with signs of maderization. In mouth, rather thin sweet malt, with light metallic notes, some roasted nuts, and oily mouthfeel. Bottle is one yr old, from Peguera, Spain, Feb.2005. Overall, not bad.
