Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 11, 2007 Not much pop upon opening and sure enough hardly any carbo. A mean dump still yields naught for head. Dark brown body. The aroma shows milk chocolate, light toffee and a hint of nuts. Soft body. Very low kellerbier-type carobonation. Chewy light toffeeish malts. Some earthiness shows through and just a hint of chocolate. Very smooth and drinkable, if a bit watery. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Mar 9, 2008 Date: 02/24/2008

argo0 (6176), Washington DC, USA Dec 19, 2006 (50cl bottle) Clear dark ruby body topped by medium beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some roast, anise, light cinnamon. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, roast, chocolate, light raisin, smoke, earthy. Light-medium body, with light stickiness, very drinkable. CaptainCougar (4637), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2005 Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a nicely-lacing frothy tan head, looks more like a schwarzbier than a dunkel. Lightly sweet dark malty aroma has a touch of dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. Full body starts with a pleasant toasty malty sweetness turning somewhat nutty and drier toward the slightly sticky roasted caramel finish. This is a solid dunkel. muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Mar 27, 2006 500 ml bottle from Table & Vine, Northampton MA (Feb 2006). Served at cellar temperature in a St. Ambroise glass. No pop is heard from the swing-top stopper, discouraging....perhaps this is last year’s batch?....but I pour and there’s a sizable, lasting frothy head topping the deep brown, clear body....nose is very bock-like, thick sweet caramel and light graininess, though there is a touch of licorice and perhaps juniper for some spicy festive times....pleasant and fresh....in the mouth, lightly toasted grains and hints of caramelized sugar, chocolaty and medium-bodied, with the sizable sweetness drying out considerably by midpalate for a smooth, oily, lean finish with just a touch of wet cardboard....nice, drinkable, on the verge of some problems in the mouthfeel and like other Mahrs beers, just not quite as good as it seems it could be, if that makes any sense.
