bkurtz (1007) - PERU - JUL 8, 2015
Bottle 25 oz - Pours a cloudy amber/orange with a smallish head. Sweet bread with some tart spice aromas. Starts with a nice body, but the finish is muddled and slightly astringent.

pours unclear pale yellow, gold tint, with a small white cap, settling in quickly to a small rind, no lacing. sweet hay and spicy bready maltiness, wooden and grassy hops, hint of sweetness - wort and white grape juice; caramel touch, chalk - fairly mineral, white wine, pepper. light carbonation, light to medium body - oily and smoothly malted; semi-sweet yet balanced by a firm woodsy-herbal-grassy finish. this bock kind of grew on me. not as impressed as when tasting some of mahr?s great lagers but this brew is a more than o-k bock.

Silphium (3188) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 3, 2015
Bottle. Deep hazy orange body, thin off-white head. Odd nose, toasty and leafy with some weird stinky butterscotchy notes. Dry, biscuity body, layered and toasty, with light hints of fermented fruits. Leafy and tannic. Boring.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark copper color with adecent head that fades to some lacing. Aroma of caramel, malt and spice. Taste of caramel, malt and a nice touch o f spice. Mild bitterness and the finish has a bit of lingering sweetness. Moderate body, smooth with a holiday feel. Nothing fancy, just a nice seasonal beer.

"probably an average bock, maybe a touch better, but i like the style, so there you go. aroma and palate seem light at first but it’s quite flavorful. sweet tofee toasted malt and grassy hops in the finish for balance. nice and easy drinking."

Scrapersnbeer (1507) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 16, 2014
Aroma of light cereal and toasted white bread, very faint caramel. Average yellow-orange color, still as water. Stoney mineral in the flavor with semi-sweet bready malt. Medium body with a cloying finish. Very average bock beer.

Couldn’t find anything special about this beer. It’s a middle of the road Bock. The aroma and the taste made me believe that this beer was just a little off. It was not as dark as I’m used to from a bock and had a giant head that took forever to go down. It might have went bad sitting on the shelf. There wasn’t really any of the spices pr flavors that I associate with most Christmas beers in the states. But that may just be because it’s not a beer brewed in the states.

Bottle. Decent bock. Lightish hop finish peeking out from the malt was a little surprising but maybe that’s due to being bottled? Nice blend of subtle flavors with no dominant one - nuts, chocolate, floral, spices - although I didn’t get much fruit, so again I’m thinking I need to try on tap, or in Bamberg.
