3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Bierstube. Very dark amber pour that starts with a strong slim off-white head. Fragrant Weisse Bock. Toasted raisin bread. Dark malts and dark red fruits. Chocolate toffee plums and prunes. Cherry cordials. Burnt toast. Dried blueberries. Maybe a touch too sweet. Also tasting some pleasant (but unexpected) sour notes - though it could be an old bottle. Fuller, juicier flavor than the Aventinus but less refined.

500 ml bottle into weizen glass, 4880 bottle code. Pours very hazy/cloudy dark brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, date, banana, chocolate, brown sugar, dark bread, molasses, clove, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with incredible complexity and balance of big dark/bready/roasted malt and fruity/earthy yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, date, banana, chocolate, brown sugar, dark bread, molasses, clove, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, date, banana, chocolate, brown sugar, dark bread, molasses, clove, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness of dark/bready/roasted malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible weizenbock style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/roasted malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Cock Tavern. Keg. Lightly hazy deep amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Light airy palate with fine carbonation. Airy malt - somewhat oxidised tasting caramel. Light sweet banana cream. Touch of minerals. Light airy finish. Bit sweet and slightly messy but it’s fine.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: sweet caramel malts, some roasted notes, some yeast, and maybe a bit of banana. Appearance: pale hazy dark gold, large frothy head. Taste: medium to heavy sweet. Palate: dark ripe fruits, sweetness, some alcohol, slightly bitter towards the end. Overall: loving this style, great Weizen Bock, lacks complexity to make it to the top, but still worthwhile drinking. Pint at the Cock Tavern, London.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma: Yeasty aroma with more banana than gum; also a healthy dose of caramel. Some apple seems to be present as well. Appearance: Murky dark brown with a fizzy bone head that fizzled out far too quickly. Flavor: More caramel up front, but finishes with banana, gum and apple. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: Comparable to Aventinus in some respects, but feels more like a gloss on that beer. A bit of a parody here.
