3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
[500ml bottle, The Beer Hive, Edinburgh] Pours deep clear brown with a thin tan lacing. Nose is thick, syrupy malt, umami, some beefy notes. Similar flavours, huge roasty, nutty palate, some sweet Demarara on the finish. Eands with that sweetness. Good stuff

Shared a 50cl bottle from Maruhn (Darmstadt). Pours a clear brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, malty, raisins and nuts. Medium to low carbonation and medium to thick body. Flavour is a bit too sweet, but overall is a good beer.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
50cl bottle, Sagasser Coburg. Pours a dark brown with a red hue and appetising solid creamy white head. Easy lager-style drinking, light mouthfeel, with not much upfront aroma, but an array of subtle and earthy hints of: slight roasted malts, caramel, raisin, walnuts, hop spice, liquorice developing in the back palate on the swallow, without lingering. Extra App. points for the confident literary-themed label.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Copper brown glowing body and creamy beige head. Quite light aroma, nutty, earthy, cereal and a light spice. Clean yeast. Light bitter, more pronounced taste profile. Good rounded, balanced character. So in the end it is still a very enjoyable beer, even though the aroma is somewhat dimmed and could use more roasted or hop character. (50cl bottle from Wasana’s Getränken Oase)
