Bottled from Holiday Wine Cellars. Never being a fanatic of dunkels or other Deutsch beers for that matter, I gave this festive seasonal brew a go. Cocoa powder, caramel and a light touch of smoked malts mask the beer out of the bottle. Dark copper brown with minimal head formation. Sweet tones of maple sugars, chocolate and roasty earth notes cement the beer’s flavor. Nothing much more intriguing to me that I noticed. Crisp and light finish, no heaviness whatsoever. Im going back to Belgium.

Somewhere between a Dunkel and a rauchbier... throw the style guide out and drink a treat awaits you
Smells of munich malt, some dusty chocolate powder and a slight hint of earthy smokiness
Pours like a porter with a tan head
Nice clean lean malt structure with munich like biscuit, bread, bitter sweet chocolate, fleeting spicy hop flavor with some earthy smokiness
Surprisingly light in the mouthfeel... finish is dry and complex wth some nutty and spicy notes with some smoke
I bet on tap it would be even more fantastic... WOW!

From a 500 ml flip top bottle poured a dark brown with off-white head and good lacing. Powerful nose of roasted and sweet malts, with a hint of fruit. Mouthfeel lighter than than you would expect, and flavors are complex, with chocolate, fruits, and a hint of smoke. Sweet finish. Decent brew.

This dunkel pours a deep brown color form a 50cl flip top bottle. Large sized beige creamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate malt, slightly sweet with a touch of fruitiness. A medium to light bodied dunkel. The malts are caramel, chocolate and semi-sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Soft carbonation. A milder tasting dunkel the flavors of raisins, chocolate and roasty malts, mingle nicely in this one. There is perhaps a touch of smoke at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and soft. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Definite sweet malt aroma and pours porter-like black. Dry, but not easy drinking as other Oktoberfests...I can see why some Oktoberfest fans would not rank this very high....Overall, solid beer.

500 ml. bottle. Sweet brown malt aroma with a bit of forest mast touch. Perhaps a hint of chocolate. Near opaque brown color with a frothy beige head that does some lacing. Thinnish body with a nicely moderate carbonation. The flavor is much of a brown ale. There’s a hint of sour, but also a decent level of bitter. The finish is dry with a impact that would be more of a brown ale or porter than a dark lager. This is just an excellent beverage. The type that makes me rethink my ale prejudices.

Great, slightly woodsy and ever so subtly sweet Dunkel. MMmmm, a little brown sugar interplays with a rich smoky (but not over the top) flavor. Aromas are of forest and earth. Palate just a touch watery. Great pockmarked ecru head. Wonderful example of the style.
