COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mahr’s Brau Ungespundet Hefetrub It pours with a big, creamy, long-lasting, head; has a golden-bronze color; a wonderfully fresh, perfumy; hop aroma; a remarkably smooth, almost oily, malty, palate; very fresh flavours; and a spritzy finish. It is beautifully balanced, but leans to the dry side. This is a delicious, appetising beer and a true taste of Germany’s fast-vanishing artisanal tradition.

Poured a medium amber with a white head. Aroma of a standard bitter, some generic hops over caramel malt. Medium body, flavour is just utterly bland.

Tap. Clear golden color. Small size, white head, disappears. Sweet, sourish, malty, corny aroma. Sour, grainy, slightly milky taste. Milky and malty aftertaste. Not for me.

Probably the most popular beer in Bamberg (in Bavaria), Germany, next to the Schlenkerla. The aroma is that of sweet malts with bread and nuts, only little hop flavour. The aftertaste is a bit bitter, grassy and dry, but not like typical German beers. It has moderate carbonation and is very drinkable and smooth. Normally comes in a goblet-like glass which gives this beer a traditional touch. Should be drunk from tap, not from the bottle! Goes very well with German food. A classic, this Kellerbier!

25cl brown glass bottle (labeled as Mahrs Bräu aU) pours with a clear copper body that has gold edges and supports a thin near white head. The modest aroma offers up light amounts of caramel malts and prunes and peach flowing into wafer thin layers of sugary malt sweetened floral hops. The taste starts with a mix of sweet maltiness and floral hops that create a flavor that isn’t my favorite. It then picks up some fruity esters notes like sugar muted red apples, peach and plum. There is a thin hit of caramel malts toward the finish. Overall not that bad. It seems the floral and sugary sweet mixture stays in the background for me.
