Mahr’s Brau Ungespundet Hefetrub It pours with a big, creamy, long-lasting, head; has a golden-bronze color; a wonderfully fresh, perfumy; hop aroma; a remarkably smooth, almost oily, malty, palate; very fresh flavours; and a spritzy finish. It is beautifully balanced, but leans to the dry side. This is a delicious, appetising beer and a true taste of Germany’s fast-vanishing artisanal tradition.

Poured a medium amber with a white head. Aroma of a standard bitter, some generic hops over caramel malt. Medium body, flavour is just utterly bland.

Pours a hazy golden color, topped with a very big but not really lasting white head. Grainy nose with some mild grassy notes. Some yeast. Mild sweetness upfront, soury grains in the main part with gentle bitterness. Decent, drinkable and fresh.

Pours a slightly clouded golden color, with a stable, one finger broad head. Smells of bready malts, together with peas and a note of sweeter, toffee malts. Aromas blend beautifully together, creating a malt forward, white bread balanced nose. Has a lively, soft mouthfeel among a light, refrehing body. Tastes of dough bread, toffee, leafes and peas again. Turns a tad sweeter, more toffeeish, while hops add an enjoyable, leafy bitterness after the swallow. Provides a nice finish, consisting of hops and toffee malts, both staying on par. Showcases a very well made, utmost clean taste profile, while exhibiting a nice depth of flavours.

Draft at Mahrs Bräu in Bamberg during the Bamberg Jolly. Pours lightly hazy, rich gold with a foamy white head. Lovely beer, lots of rich cereal, bread. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet and bready on the finish, yet still refreshingly crisp. Excellent.

On keg in Torst, Brooklyn. Rusty red lager, cloudy with a white head. Nose is grassy, musty grain, toasted grains, nutty, straw, fruity, caramel. Wow, really potent flavours for a lager. Taste is caramel, musty grain, toasted grains, grassy, straw, hay, slight fruitiness and nuttiness. This is a great tasting lager. So much flavour.

0.25 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’ as ’mahrsbräu a U’, best before 2/2016. Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly floral-grassy aroma of caramel, honey, hay and sweet malts. Sweetish-malty taste of caramel, honey, vanilla and hay, followed by a short, slightly bitter, smooth finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and very smooth mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Harmonic, well-balanced and superbly drinkable lager.

Hazy light amber pour, no head. Nose is light malt, fruity esters in the back. Ambiguously bittersweet. Middle is subtle medicinal notes, fruity yeast. Quite the mix. Finish is slightly dry. Drinkable, but...

Clear orange golden coloured beer with a big, shortlasting, rocky, slightly creme coloured head. Lots of visible carbonation. Aromas of malt, yeast, nuts, light citrus hops and floral hops . Malty in taste, long medium dry, more grassy hoppy finish. Light to medium body, more than avarage carbonation, oily texture.
