Love Mahrs. Visited twice. Never seen this beer. Darn good if you ask me. As solid an unfiltered lager as I have tasted. Why don’t American brewers make stuff like this?

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mahr’s Bräu Mastodon has a thick, unusually fizzy, off-white head, a very hazy (which becomes murky, when the sediment is swished & poured in), gold-orange appearance, and lace curtain left behind. The aroma is of sharp, sweet & sour bread, yeast, and a grass of some sort. Taste is of those elements, with a low-level, balancing bitterness, weeds, red soil, and cream. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and chewy, and this beer finishes a bit cloying and full. Overall, it is a sipper and surely not a gulper. One would be hard pressed to session this lager. RJT

Quite nice but little in complexity. Still a solid unfiltered lager, caramelly malt and smooth. Serving: Bottle

500mL bottle, nose is wonderfully sunny citrus with slight grain, good malt character, lighter toasty and grassy notes, medium hay. Lightly hazy golden leaning toward orange, strong carbonation yields only a short white head. Crisp medium body, semi-dry with strong sunny malt character up the middle, slightly spicy and grassy hops with a bready and lightly earthy finish. Light bitterness and a touch of warmth, grainy and fizzy, very slight candyish note. Some slightly unclean/impure character in the aftertaste but it’s minimal; sweetness really accumulates on the palate with volume. Feels much larger than it actually is, but remains rather drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. One of my favorite bands, hope the beer is as good! Sour hay and citrus notes in the aroma with some slight biscuit presence. Wheaty sour, some earthy zesty hops, refreshing and crackery. Light slick body. Not bad but not great.

I can certainly taste the butter in this beer. Pours amber with good head and lacing. Grainy and buttery with some sour finish. A good session beer. Tap at Churchkey.
