On tap @So Good (Rome). Pours golden with a medium and persistent white head. Aroma is malty, biscuits, light honey, floral notes, yeasts, nice! Favour is malty, medium sweet, with a mild bitter end. Light body, medium carbonation, clean and refreshing. Ok.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2015 Half liter bottle. This was a hard beer to find. I had to special order it from the distributor and it cost me $5 a bottle! Mahr´s Bräu is a family owned brewery in Bamberg, Germany and on their website, they claim to make traditional Franconian beers, not mass produced industrial beers. Let´s find out. The beer pours a clear golden yellow with a dense white head. The aroma is malt sweetness with just a touch of hop aroma. The flavor is very clean and balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness and a little bit of hop aroma. The original gravity is a bit low at 11.8°P. I like this beer and it is way better than the Pilseners that the big German breweries like Warsteiner and Krombacher produce. Nevertheless, I see room for improvement here. Bump up the original gravity and the IBU´s, add a late hop addition for more hop aroma and this beer would be perfect. Mahr´s Bräu Pilsner is very good, but I grew up in Germany and the Pilseners back in the 80s were still a lot better than this.

Spina @ greenriver. Chiara limpida con schiuma non troppo persistente. Bell'attacco di malto, poi erbe e amaro bel finale molto lungo

Yellow pour a Spuyten Duvil. Not so great. Lightly buttery, too malty, crackery, yeasty.

@Santo Bevitore Pub. Pretty much a standard pilsener, I couldn’t appreciate it really. Light, malty and biscuity, maybe a bit of dust in the taste.

Ottima pils tedesca, rinfrescante e con tutti gli attributi giusti tra dolcezza del malto e amarezza del luppolo.

A pale golden beer with a frothy but weak white head. A light, biscuity malt aroma, dusty and hay-like. Dry mouthfeel. A mildly bitter hoppy taste to start, grassy and lightly citrusy, this is tempered by a biscuity, slightly sweet malty flavour that cut the bitterness in the finish.

Mahr’s Bräu Pilsner has a thick, soapy, white head, a clear, straw-colored, appearance, with some stray bubbles, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of a bursting, sweet, crackery, and grassy malt & hop combo, and the flavor is of those same elements, with appropriate and noticeable bitterness rounding it out. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Mahr’s Bräu Pilsner finishes mostly clean, crisp, and refreshing. RJT
