Clear, pale gold. Small, dense, white head. Grainy, bready, lightly corny malt and crisp, grassy, bitter hops. Medium body, balaced carbonation, easy to drink. Nice summer brew.

Hazy straw gold. Huge, extremely fine bright white head settles stickily to full, complete cap. Nose is sharp, fresh, herbal, German hops soaring over a base of rich, fresh baked white bread. Classic Pils here. Just gorgeous. Even better in the mouth, where the rich, roundness of the malt makes first impact, only to be sliced by the hop bitterness in the midpalate. Both joust back and forth through the long, long finish. Magic. Great roundness to the mouthfeel. This fills every nook and cranny with delicious goodness, and simply slides down the throat. I could drink this beer forever, and die with a smile on my face. On draft. In my kegerator.

Golden color, small white head. Cardboard, hops and acidic notes in the nose. Slightly buttery, woody hoppy flavor. Aftertaste has some sweetness. Rounded, balanced pils, which is not really hoppy-bitter.

Pours a sightly milky, pale yellow color w/ a medium sied, spritzy froth. Hangtime is minimal and so is the lacing finally receding to flat. Aroms is slightly herbal. Medium nectar weight w/ mellow residual effers. A malty specimen w/ moderate herbal notes. Nuances of fruity aged citrus pulp. The finish has a mild bittering component.

Tap at Brauhaus, Bamberg 0,4ltr: Golden pilsener its has its typical Franconian grassy, fruity taste but i don’t like this one.

Draught @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a longlasting white head. Malty and slightly grassy aroma with some hoppy hints. Sweet malty slightly grassy hoppy bitter flavor. Long malty bitter finish.

500ml bottle. Clear bold yellow color. Firm white head. Pleasant, dusty nose of mild earthy, grassy hops and some dusty wheat. Clean and light but frothy on the palate. Sweet lemo grass and wheat along with a nice, fresh leafy hop bite. Quite good overall.

02-Jul-07 (500 ml bottle: Obtained in trade with Otter, thanks Jeremy!) Like the other Mahr’s products I’ve tried, I don’t find this beer to be a mediocre example of the style, though as usually seems to be the case with imported German beer, the beer’s freshness could be an issue. The nose immediately gives the impression of a bready beer with very light hoppiness. The flavor is fairly bready and lightly sweet, and hops are only vaguely flavorful and bitter, perhaps an indication that this beer is showing some effects of age because for a pilsener, the hops are far too subdued. Carbonation is low as well, so combined with minimal hop bite, this medium-bodied beer seems really soft and easy on the palate. The yellow-golden beer is fairly hazy, but even worse, rising carbonation bubbles are few and far between. On the plus side, though, the voluminous, white head shows good retention, maintaining a thin layer, and the plentiful lacing looks like that liquid "snow" you shoot out of a can to cover your window for a wintertime effect. The beer certainly isn’t offensive to drink, but it’s supposed to be a pilsener, but it comes across as more of a Helles.
