3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle, picked up in a getraenkemarkt in bayreuth. quite a pale golden with a thin head; hint of passoionfruit vine in the aroma, always promising for a kellerbier; low bitterness but in a good way, highlighting light tropical and chalky flavours, subtle and delicious

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brewpub. Orgy of foam in this mug, I just couldn’t drink through it. Super citrusy aroma, light grassy hop, really authentic smelling too, same great fresh farmy character as the classic examples, kind of neat when looking at the state of the art brewing equipment inside. Taste is super hoppy, really quenching, well balanced grainy bready malts with a ton of hops over the top. A great one!

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein leicht trübes strohgelbes Bier mit schöner großen stabilen Schaumkrone. Geruch grasig, blumig, Citrus, leicht getreidig. Geschmack hopfig fruchtig, Obstsalat, grasig, erstaunlich gut!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewery. Wow one of the best kellerbier in Franconia. Fresh yeasty aroma then the malt then a lasting white pepper hop. It’s fresh well made outstanding of it’s type. Maybe not quite as good as Roppelts but a damn good kellerbier. Good to

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (dough), with a note of concrete, sulfur, and DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The aroma starts off nice enough with the hops, but quickly becomes clunky and a bit acrid. Not very pleasant.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(draught at the brewery) Cloudy, pale golden colour with a mid-sized foamy white head. Slightly doughy and yeasty pale malty nose with subtle fruity notes, accompanied by hints of grassy and herbal hops. Moderately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Pale malt-character with notes of sour dough and white bread; bitter and delicately sweet malty finish with present notes of grassy hops. Solid Zwickel-Pils, but not really outstanding. 25.X.13

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2013 Draft at the brewery in Breitengüssbach.
Cloudy soft yellow with a tall white head. A bouquet of lemon, dandelion, prickly pear cactus, honey dew melon, calcium, chalk with a rich mustiness and ever-changing layer of hop and malt life in the nose. Velvety-soft texture with smooth and creamy carbonation. A joy to smell and a treat to drink! Very bright, balanced, very expressive, near flawless.
Bottle best by March 2014.
Hazed gold with a fine white head. Dough, flowers, lemon / citrus, baked bread, crackers. Tart, seemingly dry, mineralic, lightly musty. Good but the body lacks the soft creaminess found in the tap pour at the source.
Re-try of both bottled and draft Kellerbier was disappointing. No longer is it a PUNCH in the face of noble hops, it’s now more sulfuric / minerally and quieter / more muted. More ho-hum.
