COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wonderful dark beer made up of five different kinds of malt. The rich maltiness is balanced with a hopping schedule that produces a nice bitterness as well as a hop aroma and flavor. A robust example of an English Style Ale.

(Drank on 2/29/04) Roasted, and has a somewhat coffee like flavor, for those who do not know the porter style.

Got this fairly cheap at the ABC down the street because the brewery was no more and they were way overstocked. Black with tan head that quickly goes the way of the dodo. Licorice and shoe polish aroma. Coffee-like taste with some chocolately sweetness. A harsh bitterness on the back end. Not really a favorite. But I guess I don’t have to worry any about buying more.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2006 Really, this is a terrible porter. I drank two and poared the rest of the sixer out. I’ve always thought one couldn’t get enough head, but this beer has a ridiculously massive RC Cola fizz that is entirely pointless. Pointless. Desperate. Well, it’s black. It tastes like charcoal, with hints of burnt hotdogs. Harsh. Offensive. The aroma was actually porter-esque. Sorry guys, I know you’re small, but this is BAD.

3/3/04 Bottle. As witht he others I tried, this one's label claims Wilmington, NC although the rest matches this description. Pours a very dark brown, nearly black. Thick, massive, rocky brown head. Aromas of burnt malts, split pea soup (!) and savory spices. Interesting and somewhat intriguing so far. Flavors of burnt wheat toast, bitter, burnt and hoppy front to back (glad to find a good hop presence in an inexpensive porter). Very dry finish, no sweetness, thin mouthfeel. I wish this beer had some caramel or brown sugar notes to balance the bitterness and bulk up the mouthfeel.

Fairly inexpensive, aroma and flavor fall somewhere between good and fair. Probably won't purchase again.

Draft at Main Street. Opaque black, decent head, particularly when you take into account the glass that was too cold. Almost snorkelled in the beer and couldn't detect an aroma. I even searched for aroma after it had warmed and had consumed half the glass and couldn't find any. Bizarre, the place wasn't even smoky. Flavor was rather nice, malts with a bit of roastiness that was out of character for a porter, some chocolate oriented flavors, and some balancing bitterness on the end. Not special, but not bad either.

Poured black as night with a frothy tan head that dissapated quickly.Full of roasted malt flavor with a good bite. Not a spectacular brew, but a good effort from the company that doesnt know where they are from.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2003 Not bad (for the price). Pours black with an initially strong aroma. The flavors are not bad but is weak. Chocolate/coffee is the dominate flavor with a overpowering sweet finish. No hop flavor or aroma. Tried another day at room temperature. The carbination was stronger, as was the hop flavor. Did not seem as sweet. Better at room temperature, but still nothing special.

Decent, domestic budget priced Porter. Black as tar pour with a slighlty lacing mocha colored head - which dissipates fairly quickly. Nothing too distinct about the aroma - initially oily - but fades quickly. Flavor - slight chocolate; burnt coffee - but overall a bit chalky. A bit of chocoatley sweetness in the aftertaste makes the finish rather nice. Overall - well worth the $4.19 a six.

wow, another dergy’s that surprised me. i actually liked it. and it wasn’t too flat or too fizzed either. (some of the last dergy’s i tried were so carbonated that they fizzed right out of the bottle after pouring/sipping.) nice smokey, rich flavor. a bit watery, but quite nice for the price. hmmm, i wonder if something has changed at this brewery since the last time i tried their ’dergy’s’ line (which was about a year or so ago)and found it more than lacking....i’ll buy this again (not much choice anyway at most ABCs in FL)
