3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DrunkAsASkunk (847) - Lynnwood, Washington, USA - JAN 8, 2005
This beer comes compliments of beerguy101 without whom I’d probably have at least 100 fewer ratings. This beer pours a brownish red color with a somewhat impressive head, tan in color at least for a sweet stout. Good lacing as well which was surprising. The aroma is mildly malty...definitely sweet with chocolate, coffee and vanilla with a hint of oak and twigs. The flavor is medium to somewhat full bodied, nice flavor development, long lasting somewhat wet finish. Heavy chocolate grains, coffee and cocoa. A dash of cherry and licorice mixed with oak chips caps off this sweet stout.... wonderful balance, light and milky texture as it warmed....a shame this company went out of business...true its only one beer I’ve tried, but it would have been nice to have tried more.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 matta (1140) - Tampa, Florida, USA - DEC 18, 2003
It was the zesty BeanDip that gave me this beer! I think she got it from her beer of the month club, which in turn got it from a distributor, which obtained it from the brewery in Richmond, VA; and that’s how I acquired this beer!!!
THAT’S CRAAAZY!! I poured maybe 3oz of beer liquid into the glass and I got a caramel colored head the filled the remaining 6” of the glass? The body is a dark crimson brown, waiting for the head to settle……… Aroma is full of cream; sugar + milk = cream, notes of chocolate and sweated coffee, again waiting for the head to settle…………. Watery palate, kind of chalky, the flavor is ummm, bittering & dry coffee and more coffee, nothing exciting going on here, however I would really like to visit the Main St. Brewpub!
Thanks for the experience BeanDip!!!

bottled-Huge head (took up almost half my glass). Smells and tastes exactly like it's title: sweet and stout. Also has a slightly burnt, chocolatey taste. Nice dark color typical of most stouts. It's not bad, but I've had many better stouts. I might pass on another bottle - unless of course there wasn't anything else available!
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20 Norton (312) - Southside, Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAY 5, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 4, 2003 Bottled - Sparse head with some bottles; little to none with others - what gives? Head is either nonexistent or a thin ringlet. Excruciatingly thin body for stout; wispy mouthfeel does not fit for the brew style. Over carbonated. Dark brown with reddish nuance. Nice burnt roasted flavor. Aroma is best aspect: coffee-like toastiness. Slightly below average due mainly to physical properties, but I guess I would drink again considering it's local. Slight extra credit for being within walking (stumbling) distance from my place.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 jaymobrown (1457) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 24, 2003
No real nose. Sweet rice milk taste. Decent to drink, but artificial. Watery feel for the mouth. Uninteresting.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ringo (963) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - MAR 18, 2003
It's a pleasant enough beer to drink, but certainly nothing special and not worthy of a beer of the month club that costs $44.95. Very light in color and body for a stout.

Pours a nice color with a rich aroma of roasted malts. Unfortunately the beer hits it's climax before you taste the first sip. Very watery palate with a very dry roasted malt flavor profile. Nothing sweet about this stout as it has no discerning characteristic other than roasted malt.
1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 7, 2003
A deep garnet on the pour, the head miniscule, the color “Who Cares”, the lace “MIA”. Nose, sweet, lightly toasted grain, not much else. Start sweet, top “Cadaverous”, finish bland, dry aftertaste, Watery, a bit of hops, I guess this passes for beer, but just barely!
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 JoeM500 (1894) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - MAR 7, 2003
Pours very dark brown with an inch thick tan head. roasted malt nose isn't big by any means, also there is a slight green pepper aroma. This is terribly thin and watery. Yesterdays cold cup of coffee!! Slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Poor quality stuff. No alcohol in it either... Maybe this IS last nights coffee!

UPDATED: APR 4, 2003 (4Apr2003--re-rate)
A much improved experience. Grape Soda is gone--perhaps it was a bad bottle, or perhaps my taste buds were crazy that night.
Still terribly flat and generally limp, but the flavor is a nice compact roastiness, slightly sweet, low bitterness.

(4Mar2003-- to see who else got beer of the month for Christmas!
I'm amazed at how much the other two reviewers enjoyed this beer. Personally, I thought it was mediocre, though hardly in the same way as, say, Coors Light.
It starts well enough, pouring a deep brown, nearly opaque color, with a small,
off-white head. Bubbles are very fine-textured, and the head recedes quickly with a bit of lacing.
Smell also starts nicely; very pronounced roastiness, which my nose picks up as iodine (though pleasant).
But something perplexing in the aroma turned my eyebrows askew...could it be...grape soda?
The first disturbing sip of this beer confirms the Welch's Grape Soda hypothesis.
Flat Welch's Grape Soda at that! Stunningly thin mouthfeel for something so dark. Crimeny, I couldn't brew something so thin if I tried!
Light roasted, slightly sweet flavor, with a bit of sourness. Undercarbonated in bottle form.
