COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some may call this a malty double IPA, some a hoppy barley wine. We prefer that it not be classified. We think of it, simply, as our strong winter ale. Intense hop aromatics and flavor (think pine, candied orange) blended with just enough malt sweetness to balance out the palate. Vitals: Color – Mahogany ABV – 9.1% O.G. – 1.080 Malt – American 2-Row, Marris Otter, Victory, Carapils, Caramel 80, Midnight Wheat Hops –Centennial, Simcoe, Cascade, Falconer’s Flight

Bottle. Hazy copper with off white gusher head. Aroma is huge hops with big grapefruit and pine notes. Taste is very bitter, starting like tea and finishing with pungent resinous hops and a strong alcohol punch. Nice soft palate and just enough carb. Another outstanding effort from Maine Beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Serving: 500 ml. bottle from Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a hazy orange with a small, frothy, light tan head. The nose is a potent mix of hops with lots of pine and citrus. The flavor borders on IIPA territory with a very strong hop presence. That pine and candied orange in the description fits to a tee. A little bread and dark caramel helps round things out from the malt side. Full bodied with a lasting finish. Another outstanding brew from these guys. Highly recommended.

Bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a small light beige head. Pine and grapefruit aromas with a touch of tropical fruits and bready malts. Nice balanced flavor of caramel and bread with pine/citrus/tropical fruit hops. A little alcohol come through in the finish along with more pine/citrus/tropical fruit hops.

Bottle. 2013 vintage bottled on "013113". Assuming the "01" next to the bottling date is the batch number. Dark amber to near copper pour with a fading, foamy tan head. Strong pine and grapefruit up front with this as well as hints of pineapple and orange peel oil. Lots of chewy and bready malts as well. Taste is semi-sweet with caramel, malt, bread dough, citrus oils, grapefruit notes, light pineapple, pine resins and and herbal hops. Body is medium with a soft alcohol warmth, light, creamy, bubbly carbonation and moderate stickiness. Ends with more big citrus notes, lots of pine, tropical fruit, herbal hops and big caramel. Not bad!

Bottle. Ruby brown pour with tan head. Slight hoppy, tea, and balancing malt aroma notes. Flavor ends with tea, light spice hop flavor tones.

Bottle from Julios. Pours out a medium cloudy and rusty amber color. Off-white head that settles to a good lace. Aroma of spice and pine. Flavor is piney and bitter, with a tiny bit of sweetness that keeps it in check. Very smooth. Somehow though, this doesn’t knock it out of the park for me from Maine Beer Co.

16.9 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with a pocked ivory head. Nose is cut grass, pineapple, lemon and pine. Smooth medium body with a soft buzz. Taste is lemon zest, earthy pine, bitter orange and menthol. Took me a while to warm up to this one; seamless and unique hop profile with muted sweetness.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2014 Bottle shared with Andrew and Brendan. Pours a deep, hazy amber red body with nice white lacing. Aroma is rich, funky hops, light caramel malt, fresh citrus and flowers. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of pine hop, resin, caramel, light booze, grapefruit and faint citrus. Another knockout from Maine. Cheers.
