3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - MAR 3, 2013
500ml bottle from once upon a vine, dated 1/31/13. pours a hazy, golden orange capped by a fluffy beige head that leaves thick sheets of lace on the glass. aroma is great with a very unique blend of citrus hop notes of orange zest, pink grapefruit, and lemons backed by sweet honey, tree sap, brown sugar, and gummy candy with hints of earth, pine, and soap as it warms. flavor is deliciously sweet with heavy notes of candied fruits, nougat, sugar coated pink grapefruit, and orange creamsicles backed by toasted nuts, dry malts, and hints of toffee. palate is full bodied with light carbonation and a lingering, dry, bitter finish. overall, a very interesting and tasty american strong ale.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle thanks to lukaduke. Thanks man! Pours a semihazy copper with a white head of bubbly foam. Aroma is dank pine with a spicy sweet malt backbone. Taste is a clean hop bitterness with lots of pine. Really nice and clean. Super drinkable, especially for its gravity. So good.

Bottle. Hazy copper with off white gusher head. Aroma is huge hops with big grapefruit and pine notes. Taste is very bitter, starting like tea and finishing with pungent resinous hops and a strong alcohol punch. Nice soft palate and just enough carb. Another outstanding effort from Maine Beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Elwood (2552) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Serving: 500 ml. bottle from Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a hazy orange with a small, frothy, light tan head. The nose is a potent mix of hops with lots of pine and citrus. The flavor borders on IIPA territory with a very strong hop presence. That pine and candied orange in the description fits to a tee. A little bread and dark caramel helps round things out from the malt side. Full bodied with a lasting finish. Another outstanding brew from these guys. Highly recommended.

Bottle. 2013 vintage bottled on "013113". Assuming the "01" next to the bottling date is the batch number. Dark amber to near copper pour with a fading, foamy tan head. Strong pine and grapefruit up front with this as well as hints of pineapple and orange peel oil. Lots of chewy and bready malts as well. Taste is semi-sweet with caramel, malt, bread dough, citrus oils, grapefruit notes, light pineapple, pine resins and and herbal hops. Body is medium with a soft alcohol warmth, light, creamy, bubbly carbonation and moderate stickiness. Ends with more big citrus notes, lots of pine, tropical fruit, herbal hops and big caramel. Not bad!

Bottle from Julios. Pours out a medium cloudy and rusty amber color. Off-white head that settles to a good lace. Aroma of spice and pine. Flavor is piney and bitter, with a tiny bit of sweetness that keeps it in check. Very smooth. Somehow though, this doesn’t knock it out of the park for me from Maine Beer Co.

16.9 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with a pocked ivory head. Nose is cut grass, pineapple, lemon and pine. Smooth medium body with a soft buzz. Taste is lemon zest, earthy pine, bitter orange and menthol. Took me a while to warm up to this one; seamless and unique hop profile with muted sweetness.
